I'm going to post some photos and would love for people to tell me what colours or types my budgies are, I've spent hours googling but its confusing me. Thanks!

 

This girl has a deformed beak. I picked up 5 budgies yesterday this girl was in a pair, I pointed it out to the breeder, he said it doesn't affect her & just gave her too me, she can eat well but I'm very sad for her, I read I can clip her beak to help, should I or should I put her down? She's all white the green is reflection from the avairy

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

yellow cock above is dad to the chick & eggs this hen is sitting on, what possible colours will chicks be?

 

 

would love to know what this guy is he is all colors and my favourite

 

Our local pet shop is able to clip the beak because they have much experience with budgies. However I think it would be worth going to a vet with her. She probably didn't get calcium blocks to chew on to trim it. I can't see the beak that well in the photos but if you have good eyesight then you would know if she has tiny pinhead size holes in it. I had a scare recently thinking one of mine had scaly face; it turned out she didn't.

Hi, I cannot give you accurate mutations either but some lovely birds.

Did you quarantine your new birds away from your existing birds? This is most important to prevent any disease effecting your aviary. Although the breeder said your bird with misshapen beak is okay she doesn't look like a happy little bird I think a beak trim is in order asap. If you don't know any breeder e.g in your area who may know how to clip her beak, it would be a vet visit I'd say. It looks more like an overgrown lower beak, don't really think it's mites causing it.

The new birds are in their own avairy ( there are 3 avairies photo'd here lol ) I live in the sticks & our local vet is useless he won't even look at birds, I'll get a decent photo of her today in the light so you can see her beak clearly, it's the bottom one its grown up & out on an angle

Hi Rhiannan, it would be more helpful to have the photos taken in natural light instead of using a flash. It looks to me that both the upper and lower beak need to be trimmed. You can trim yourself (I've had to do it) with nail clippers but since your bird is fairly extensive and if you can't get anyone else to do it I would do it gradually.

I just went in to take a quick photo & it looks like she does actually have light green on her feathers ?

 

 

 

Also I have 3 avairys.

One is approx 6 x 11

Other is a suspended avairy about 3 x 5 x 7

And a smaller square one prob 5 x 5

 

How many birds could these house without over crowding?

This one had 4 also plus one chick hatched yesterday

 

This one no longer has finches it has the 5 new ones

All of your birds are beautiful! I hope the girl with overgrown beak gets better, she doesn't look very happy. Hopefully the beak trim will help her.

she certainly looks a lot happier now! I have commented in your other thread as well, but keep an eye out to see if you need to keep clipping it!

Yes she does look a bit sad, all the new ones do they seem to be picking up a fair bit now tho.

Well done with the clipping job. She will have to be better able to eat now. I think I would give your new birds a drop of Ivamectin on back of neck, which should help clear up any worms etc they may be carrying. That should help them pick up, plus good seed and veg's etc. I would give them calcium/iodine bell or cuttlefish, shell grit etc. to help keep their beaks in trim, even a bit of tree branch, safe ones naturally. Does your white hen have red eyes or was it just the camera?

 

I thought, if your hen will let you, if you had a really fine "rat tail file" you may be better able to shape her beak a bit better with that. Now you have trimmed it it may wear down itself with her able to chew on things a bit more. Keep us posted on how she goes.

You know what , I'm not actually sure what colour eyes she has lol I think red? I'll look when I get home. I've already put ivamectin on them

They have natural branches and calcium bells and cuttle bones, her bottom beak is still a little odd, it's still kinda points out to the side but not half as bad.

 

They all came out of breeding cabnets in a darker type shed I was hoping they would pick up being in an avairy, I bought them silver beat today I hope they like it

Hi, you may have to try several times before they will accept the new food. Mine love silver beet/spinach especially if I hose it first and leave it wet, they then try to bath on it as well. If they have been in dark sheds they may not have had access to direct sunlight, which they need for vitamin D I think it is, it's really important for them for breeding and general health.

 

As her beak will continue to grow you may be able over time to get her beak into a more natural shape, it may reshape itself if she starts to chew on branches etc.

Wow, it didn't take them long to try it. Same with corn on the cob, I put it on the dish and stand back. Some have tried raw beetroo,t just cut in half and let them go for it, they usually look like they have been in a massacre but it wears off.

I think I would be kicked out of the club If I made a statement like that to a customer. In my opinion the breedershouldn't have sold a bird with a beak in that condition.

My birds go crazy over silver beat they can smell it before I enter the cage and they can hardly wait for me to hang it up.

 

That bird with white and tinge of green in it is amazing.

 

You joined a club Paulie good to see its very informational being part of a club I think.

 

Oh that green bird could be a Opaline Dilute

 

 

Just like my Tilly she has tinges of blue.

I think I would be kicked out of the club If I made a statement like that to a customer. In my opinion the breedershouldn't have sold a bird with a beak in that condition.

Based on the first photos of the bird, that breeder was out and out lying. She looked like she was already starving to death! Rhiannan, I hope she is able to eat enough now to make a comeback. Good for you helping her out.

 

Paulie, I don't think a breeder like that would even be able to get into a club in order to get kicked out!

Thanks guys I've just got home, I went to townsville on Thursday, I've noticed I need to trim her bottom beak it looks like its grown again, but all over she looks and acts a lot more happy.

 

I'm waiting on my stepdad an brother to get here, they are helping me move one avairy, the hen who was on eggs that were fertile and about ready to hatch has kicked them all out and I think its due to the heat so I've removed the breeding box's and getting dad to help move the avairy to the back of the house where there is more shade

 

The hen ( different avairy)that had 3 chicks wen I left is now down to two, not sure what happened to the middle chick but looks like it was squashed a bit, the oldest chick is now getting lots of feathers and looks like it will be all yellow like dad

 

What color eyes does that yellow chick have?

That's very interesting. Since it's not a lutino, do you know what its parents are? They would both have to be spangles in order for it to be a DF spangle. The only other option is dark eyed clear. Unless maybe it has some markings coming in on it somewhere that I can't see in the photos.

The mum is the one in the box i have photo'd here I can get a clearer photo of her in the morning & dad is the all yellow one that's photo'd on the first page

Are you sure its eyes are black? I may be imagining things but i might see the tiniest red tinge in the photo. It isn't very good for the eyes though so I may be wrong. Can you pick it up and see? If it does have red eyes it will be a girl but if not it would be interesting to think what it means about the parents' genetics!
