Posted October 14, 201311 yr Hi all, I'm new to budgie breeding, today I checked a nest box where mumma budgie has been sitting on four eggs, there was one freshly hatched egg. Once I figure out how to upload photos I'll put some up. Will be posting heaps for help and info, great forum Can someone tell me what colour / type mum is?

October 14, 201311 yr That's an adorable couple! I especially like the colors on the hen. The photos are very pretty.
October 15, 201311 yr The first couple: the hen looks like a pied (I think recessive...) yellow base (if they have white/blue based chicks then both parents are split to white base. The cock is a lutino so your male chicks will be split to ino (possibly able to have ino babies depending on their partner) and all your female chins will be inos (you can tell that from the start from their red eyes the moment they hatch. Any with red eyes will be girls. From the photo the chick looks to have black/dark eyes so it will be a boy. For the hen can really tell much more about her colour without more photos from more angles. They all look beautiful rhiannan! Can't wait to see more photos of the babies! Chek out my thread on my ino clutch for photos of what the ino chicks will look like if you like this is the link http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=32784&pid=383090&st=20entry383090
October 15, 201311 yr Author Thankyou so much, very helpful much appreciated will check out your thread now I have a all white hen I picked up the other day but she has a deformed beak so I don't think I will breed from her, which is sad cos if I paired them i could get chicks like yours? I have photos of her in the mutation section
October 16, 201311 yr From your photos of her it doesn't look to be a genetic issue, more of something that could be fixed with gradual trimming and availability of cuttlefish and calcium blocks. It may need constant monitoring in the future to make sure it doesn't get out of hand again! I wouldn't breed her until her beak is under control but assuming it is just overgrown there should be no problem breeding her when it is fixed
October 16, 201311 yr You mentioned your albino came as part of a pair... does her partner feed her? This might help her stay healthy while her beak is still being treated... just a thought The bird in my picture, Sunshine, was one of my first birds and she got into a fight one day and had her bottom beak shattered so it never grew very well after that. It was almost back to normal after a while but without the balance of the bottom beak with the top beak the top can often get out of hand, Sunshine's did! I was able to clip her beak (a tiny bit, ~0.5mm, at a time) to keep it in check with nail clippers. This was much easier because she was tame and didn't move when I did it, but you will have to gauge what might work for you The best of luck for her beak anyway! it would certainly be exciting if it got under control and you were able to breed her!
October 16, 201311 yr Author Your bird in the profile photo is beautiful! I'm not sure if her partner feeds her, I haven't seen him do it I only ever see her in the food dish eating away by herself lol she's an ugly little odd ball at the moment but she's won a place in my heart, I caught her last night in the dark as she's less spooky in the dark and she let me trim in no problems, she seems happier today And other news is I went in to check them tonight and a second chick was in the process of hatching
October 16, 201311 yr How exciting! I love it when you catch them in the process of hatching It is so beautiful to hear them chirping and pecking away at the egg. I'm sure she will be feeling much much better! Hopefully with some tlc and calcium blocks/cuttlefish she will be normal looking and beautiful in no time! The calcium from a block or a cuttlefish may also help in the new beak development as it grows out, fingers crossed! Yes, Sunshine was gorgeous. She was a little bit crazy though, and the worst mother ever! She was truly terrible at raising chicks sadly.
October 16, 201311 yr Author She has calcium bell and cuttle fish, one of the other budgies love it but odd ball and the others are not too fazed with them lol These are first first budgies since I was a kid ( my pet budgie died when I was 8 I'm now 23 lol) my first budgie rocca was a character too, I got these budgies " fort kids" but I've kinda taken over now hahaha I was shocked as *** when I peered into the nest and seen it hatching!! The mum ( and dad) both so far seem to be terrific parents I freaked out when I seen bub hatching and put the nest back, I would of liked to watch it but mumma is very protective and I didn't want to upset her, I'll take another peek in the morning though For my kids* auto correct & sleepy doesn't mix
October 16, 201311 yr They can be such characters, each of mine has a different personality, they are all gorgeous I got two birds for my 11th birthday in 2004, Sunshine and Blanc. They have both since died, Sunshine in 2008, and Blanc last year (he was permanently depressed and got very overweight after Sunshine died!) and I miss them both so much, they will always be my favourites! I am thinking Stumpy (one of my chicks, who has a broken leg) may be my new 'special' budgie now though Lovely to hear the parents are super protective! Always nice to see first time parents doing a good job as well.
October 20, 201311 yr Author There's now a 3rd chick . That's all for the nest, 3 alive chicks, one died and last egg no good
October 20, 201311 yr How exciting, it will be great to see them as they grow up! Do any of the chicks have red eyes? Is this the nest where the dad is a lutino? If it is, all your girl babies will be inos and have red eyes. Looks like chick 1 is a boy from his lack of red-eyes!
November 3, 201311 yr Lovely chicks, I had some similar pied's my "Aussie's" I call them one gr/ gold one dk gr/ gold.
