Posted September 17, 201311 yr Hi, We are looking at getting some budgies and we are currently decided what cage would be suitable to have out on our back deck. I have read that wider cages are better than tall cages for budgies. I have found this one, which we like the look of, but just wondering if you all think it is suitable for budgies and how many budgies would it hold comfortably. http://www.gtmall.com.au/xl-parrot-escape-jumbo-corner-bird-cage-aviary.html?utm_source=myshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Pet+Supplies&utm_term=XL+Parrot+Escape+Jumbo+Corner+Bird+Cage+Aviary Not sure if this link will work, but hopefully it does. Really look forward to becoming apart of this online community, I have been reading and browsing for a few weeks now, can't wait to get started.
September 17, 201311 yr this may be a wider cage but it also doesn't allow for perches to be sit up so birds can fly to one end to the other. these cages only appeal to people who have parrots and cockatoos. as them birds aren't even going to attempt to fly inside that cage. Budgies in groups will want to fly from perch to perch back and forth. so best off to get a rectangular design. Like this one here if you are looking for this kinda style. http://www.gtmall.com.au/bird-cage/1-8m-roof-design-bird-cage.html You would probably fit 5 - 6 in this cage. September 17, 201311 yr Author Thank you for replying, I have just replied in the other thread as well
September 17, 201311 yr Author lol. thank you. I like the look of the black one, so do my kids and my husband. So think we might have a winner How many would you have in there at any one given time, comfortably of course. Just want to start out with 2 but happy to add to our flock as time goes by
September 17, 201311 yr I would probably add 4 - 6 but 4 would be a comfortable number. You could get a aviary
September 17, 201311 yr Be aware that the wire gap in the black cage(XL Parrot Escape Jumbo Corner Bird Cage Aviary) is 1.7 cm designed for larger Parrots. Recommended for budgies is 1.2mm so they cant slip through the wires. The cage suggested by L_J is a far better proposition for budgies. Edited September 17, 201311 yr by paulie
September 17, 201311 yr Author Thank you guys, yes Paulie I agree the cage L_J suggested is pretty much exactly the say as the one I found just prior to them posting lol. Except it all black, here is the link http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111167561452?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 however I have just noticed the space is still 1.5cm would that still be too big? L_J I really like the idea of getting an avery, however the space I want to put it in I'm just not sure it would work. My husband doesn't like the look of the galvanised look aviaries as it's up on our deck were we entertain and spend a lot of time. I know that sounds a little silly but still want it to fit in with the current look of the deck as well as making sure we provide them with appropriate living quarters. I'm even happy to try attempt to make a suitable aviary but wouldn't have a clue. Does anyone know of any websites to give me some ideas on different looking aviary cages etc? Oh what about this one? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brand-New-Large-Bird-Cage-Parrot-Aviary-170cm-ED04-/171123642294?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item27d7c38fb6&_uhb=1
September 17, 201311 yr the one you have posted seems to be the same but the wire spacing closer so thats a good plus. You can get color bond aviaries.
