Posted September 13, 201311 yr why do we have so many different names for one variety, the( blackeyed yellow ) bey as we call it in my club, also referred to by others as the ( blackeyed self ) bes and other breeders call the dilutes, yellow darkeyed clears, etc their is a multitude of names for this variety.

September 24, 201311 yr okay a few names as I know them; Black eyed self = Semi albinism. An Albino with black eyes. DF spangle = looks like BES but has white iris rings and is not albinism. Albino/Lutino = full albinism with bird displaying only the base colour (white or Yellow) with pink eyes and light pink skin.cocks display a pink cere for life and hens cere develops normally.

I have never heard of an opaline clearwing being called a self. I believe I picked it up in conversation but as far as book references go Budgerigars by Cyril Rodgers explains the term.
