why do we have so many different names for one variety, the( blackeyed yellow ) bey as we call it in my club, also referred to by others as the ( blackeyed self ) bes and other breeders call the dilutes, yellow darkeyed clears, etc their is a multitude of names for this variety.

Because no matter how many new names are invented I will always call them Light Yellows.

there you go! another name crazy please standerize budgie colours and varieties to 1 name.

Ha ha,

I think the name "black eyed self" should be scrapped because "self" is also a name for opaline clearwings, which also have black eyes.

okay a few names as I know them;

Black eyed self = Semi albinism. An Albino with black eyes.

DF spangle = looks like BES but has white iris rings and is not albinism.

Albino/Lutino = full albinism with bird displaying only the base colour (white or Yellow) with pink eyes and light pink skin.cocks display a pink cere for life and hens cere develops normally.

Where did you learn this? I have never heard of an opaline clearwing being called a self.

I believe I picked it up in conversation but as far as book references go Budgerigars by Cyril Rodgers explains the term.
