My Budgie Won't Eat Fruit Or Veges

Hi,

I have a young budgie that I have taken from my aviary and am keeping inside as a pet. He is eating loose seed from my hand but will not eat anything else. I have tried apple, lettuce, endive, carrot, even millet(he has tried the millet but has not come back to it).

I have tried holding it in my hand while he is eating the loose seed, I have pegged it to the side of the cage and left it on the floor of the cage. He is just not interested.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Tracey

Hi Tracy, It's not a one time thing to get them to try new things, you have to keep trying them, mine are just getting interested in Broccoli after trying for 2 weeks on a daily basis.

Actually it's easier in the aviary, (monkey see -monkey do), it only takes one to try and then others follow. Just keep trying a little bit each time, less waste that way, until he tries it. :)

all my budgies and my friends budgies LOVE french millet!

hope it works!

Hi,

It can be very difficult to get budgies to try new foods, I noticed that budgies love corn on the cob and also bok choy. These were the first 2 foods my birds took to.

To get them to eat fruit and veg you have to persist with it. Continuously place it in the cage and eventually they will start to try it and eat it.

Good luck with it

My birds love corn as well. Once I tricked them into tasting Mango by cutting it up in corn size peices. They did pick it up to throw it around the cage but didn't seem to like it either. I guess it's like was stated before try try again.
