Hello everyone,

I have a new egg laid on the 22nd of May 2013, The egg was laid by the same pair as the previous journal pair. I thought they may have laid earlier, however better late than never. I knew that the female would lay as she had a very large egg bum, and was a bit slower today! she is nice and healthy and so is the father. I wonder how many chicks I will get this time and what mutations, I already have a person wanting two, if they hatch that is, fingers crossed, she is in the new breeding cages I made two months ago, they are nice and large and hygienic, so all in all it is going perfect so far.

nice one.

I think apples laid today she is in nestbox.

My evening check didn't turn up any egg, but come night she is in nestbox.

so looks like ours will be hatching together :)

I am getting some more breeding cages, It is a very nice cage, and it better be for what the price is, It has four joined that can disconnect from each other, which is on a stand with shelving.

post pictures when you get it. Like seeing others setups.

Sure, well, to surprise you all (and me) someone brought the cage home while I was having dinner!!!! so I will post a picture either this morning or this afternoon sometime, By The Way the other blue female that should lay, is worrying me, im hoping she isn't egg bound, I just hope that the day I noticed them mating was the first, which means it should arrive today or tomorrow, just wish me luck with her as its her first time and I thought she was infertile, however now she is getting egg bum, so fingers crossed.

Very nice cage your budgies will love it.

Good luck with your breeding.

Cheers Jenny

Thanks Jenny, they do enjoy it, I think though maybe I should make something to not let them escape when I open the doors as it is outside. What do you think, as there is no room at all in the aviary for that monster of a cage.

It would be good of you had a shed or room for it to go in.

You could try to put something in or around the doors but not sure how you would go about it.

Most of what you need to do can be done through your rotating feed doors there is less chance of letting your birds out of them.

Cheers Jenny

Yeah, well there is a side door that's the one I use. I could put them in a shed, however it is being used to restore 2 Jaguars, one is completed and the other is going under the restoring now, so no room there, birds make too much mess inside, so no for that, and no where else really, I am going to use a blanket and stand under that and that will stop it a bit.

make a frame with wire so you can fit in to do your business and step out again?

would have a door on it too.

go to your local tip and scavenge some wood or get on freecycle site.

Hi Budgie_Mad,

just because you see the pair mating does not mean your first egg will arrive within 2 days of it, they will mate at any time and not produce eggs.

If she is looking egg bummy it could still be days before she actually lays, THEN expect eggs every 2 days and they will hatch in the same time frame, if they are fertile. (18 days incubation hatch every 2 days) approximately. Good luck with them, great looking cage set up, should be a snap to keep clean.

Yes, I know that they can have 'recreational mating', and about the egg bum, I just am a little bit on the edge atm, as I am really busy, I think that it could have been recreational mating, as the egg bum has only just started, However you are probably right.

okay thanks L__J,

Exciting news, Talks and Lil, the blue and turquoise have laid for the first time, just hope it is fertile. the 1st egg was laid on the 2nd of June 2013.

As for Mixie and Lady, they have a total of 6 eggs, if there is another one it will be tomorrow 3rd of June 2013. The 3rd egg was on the 26 of May 2013, 4th was on the 28th of May 2013, 5th was on 30th of May 2013, and as I said the 6th was on 1st of June 2013. So far 4 are fertile, fith egg looks like the membrane hasn't been damaged by the crack because it appears to be getting vanes.

Well, There has been a mouse the last 2 nights, and I caught it! yay females are back intothe box, the eggs are okay as the mouse isonly there in the moorrnings, and only for a bit to get some wood shavings. So all good.

where there is one mouse there is many :)

Gotta catch em all :)

Yes there are still traps out. I have caught one. SO maybe a few to go. 9/06/13 is when the first baby is due.

The chick has hatched on the 10 of June 2013, I am so happy I thought it wasn't going to come out, because it was chirping yesterday and stopped, so I thought it suffocated. but all is good, pictures will come later.
