Posted May 14, 201311 yr Boy or girl? My first was obviously a boy from as soon as I got him. This one had quite a bit of blue on his cere at 7 weeks, but now at 10 weeks, I'm not sure. I have attached photos on different light.
May 14, 201311 yr Hmmm, kind of tricky. First picture I'd say boy, can't tell in second picture, and the other pictures look like a girl LOL. More experienced people on here will give you a clearer answer I'm sure. Do you think one of the pictures is more true to color than the others? Edited May 14, 201311 yr by Birdlove
May 15, 201311 yr Author The second photo is the most true colour, as it was daylight. Although obvioulsy he is quite far away in it. I will try to get some more photos tomorrow. Can anybody tell from his features or head shape?
May 16, 201311 yr I'd say hen but don't quote me. I have "Pink to white bulbous cere with larger looking nostrils" in notes as to how to guess sex. Males "Pinker smooth cere small nostrils". Hope this helps until someone else more informed can post.
May 17, 201311 yr I'm inclined to think that your bird is a hen. Out of interest, is it a 'bitey' bird? I've generally found that the hens, even when very young, are a bit more bitey or nippy than the males which usually content themselves with a gentle nibble.
May 18, 201311 yr hardest thing is the range of colours in the photos you posted.....how about you take a good look at what you see and determine if there is a decent amount of white ...then its a female and if its bright pinky purple its a boy. I dont go by the nostrils shape and size theory Edited May 18, 201311 yr by **KAZ**
