G'Day folks

just thought I would say hello. HELLO

I joined this site because it has a lot of information on breeding budgies, and I have just started to breed budgies.

I had budgies as a kid and have had budgies for my own kids.

we have a range of pets, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 long neck turtles, a tank of fish and a duck. and we started with 1 budgie that started to lay eggs on the cage floor and then sit on them.

so we decided to get het a mate and now we have a totale of 7 budgies with more on the way ( 2nd clutch )

I have made a bird room to keep our cats away and to keep the budgies safe

i have an old aviary that I am fixing up as well.

Cheers

Mark

hey welcome to the forums.

Notice you say you started with 2 budgies.

Now you have a total of 7. I wouldn't go inbreeding these you should probably go shopping for some partners for these 5 birds that don't have partners.

I would look at a few threads on inbreeding.

Hope to see some photos soon :)

no inbreeding I only want to breed strong and healthy birds.

this is how it all started

my wife wanted a budgie and went to a friend who had breed some, she chose a young bird that turned out to be a female.

4 years later I as I pat the bird, she went into the mating position. a short while later she started to lay eggs and incubate them on the cage floor.

we decided to get her a mate, we thought the male that we got was too young to mate. turns out he wasnt.

added a nest box. get 13 eggs, 8 infertile. she started laying eggs right after we introduced the male before they had mated.

only have 1 breeding pair. the others are too young - 10 weeks old

I have been looking into purchasing some breeding pairs

and some other budgies to add different blood lines and to breed with the ones I decide to keep from the 1st pair.

I am planning on starting to breed later this year, I wasnt planning on any more babies from this pair so soon. still learning..

I will be seperating the pair once these eggs have hatched and the dad can look after them.. first one is due to hatch in around 5 days.

and I will seperated the sexes once I can work out which sex is which.

I think so far that I have 4 males 1 female.

I will post some pics of them as soon as I work out how to.

I have seen a couple of budgies that I would love to get.. a female grey dom pied and a male violet dom pied

Hi mark

Welcome to the forum. I'm only very new and gave found it very helpful.

Your birds look great. I particularly like th way they look against the corrugated iron. I have started to build a aviary and lined it with corrugated iron myself. I think it shows the birds off nice.

Regards

Brett

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum. I too am new, and certainly find it very helpful. Your budgies look gorgeous.

Cheers, Sandy
