Posted April 18, 201312 yr Hi all, I'm new here and this is my first post. I am going to breed budgies so i bought a larger cage, but i did not know then that it is better for it to have a longer length than height. I bought a cage that is 91cm high, 80cm Length and 47cm width The nesting box sits up top as that is where i could easily put it without cutting the cage and i have access on the outside. I am wondering if i should move the box down further as i am scared that the babies will fall out and hurt themselves. My hen has already laid 2 eggs ( my first ) and don't want to disrupt her in any way. Thank you in advance for any advice and hope that someone can answer Regards, Jaffa
April 18, 201312 yr Hi Jaffa, welcome to the forum. In general budgies should have longer rather than higher but your cage sounds big so I wouldn't worry, just make sure your perches run front to back so they can fly long ways. Keep the nest box high budgies prefer it , the babies will be fine
April 19, 201312 yr Hello, welcome to the forum Yes, budgie babies don't come out of the nest until they fledge, and then they'll be flying so its all fine
April 19, 201312 yr Sounds okay, If your hen has already laid 2 eggs she must think it's fine also. If conditions aren't right they breed readily. Good luck with it.
