April 14, 201312 yr What do you want to know, do you have a problem or just want to research before you have one? If the former, re- post with details. If the latter I'd say start with pinned topics on breeding budgies etc that will give you a bit of info. then it's a case of follow your nose. I have picked up everything I now know through this site. It's a case of read, read, and more reading. Then putting it into practice. Firstly would be cage set up,quarantine, diet, safe & unsafe foods. Things to look out for in case of illness. etc. etc. AND ask questions no matter how silly you think it is.
April 15, 201312 yr Author hi, i have done thousands of research (hours!) and i just want to know some tips from experience. i have: -breeding box 22.5 x 15.5 x 16 cm -cage 61.5 x 31.5 x 71 cm - some imformation -and no experience! also i have 2 budgies, one wild colours and the other just skye blue, the blue budgie (sky) is a girl and is half new, like i bought her as an adult, she is a real biter!! i need to know how i can tame her, and my budgies do not come out of there cage, i am hoping to tame them how to do that, if u have any tips i will take them in well, I NEED TO FIX SKYES BITING PROBLEM FIRST!!! IT HURTS!!
April 15, 201312 yr First off if you really wanna breed them you do not try tame them while you are breeding. You would be disturbing the process. Budgies are going to bite no matter what you do when you pick them up. I have lots of females they break my skin. I normal use a tea towel to pick them up. I pretty much know nothing on the taming side of things as I haven't the time to be taming them. Maybe you could start a topic in this forum Kinda Hijacking this Topic. if I had administrator powers I would Split what u just wrote into a new topic.
April 17, 201312 yr Have split this to a thread of its own. Hi elle, welcome to the forum. Robyn and L__J have given you good advice. The best way to learn to breed budgies is to read, read, and read some more. There is a wealth of information on this forum, and as you absorb it, you will think of specific questions to ask us, which we will do our best to answer. I think it's great that you are learning before the problems present themselves. (Sorry about the italics, I can't turn them off!)
April 18, 201312 yr Author Hi, Skye (female) wont go inside the breeding box anymore since I have changed to the outside, What can I do? Thanks for helping
April 18, 201312 yr You can take off the nesting box. You (and they) are not ready yet. It takes more than one day to read up and learn what you need to know before you proceed.
April 18, 201312 yr Yeah I agree have a bit more of a read. Topics you need to know Breeding Condition Light Conditions Food Egg Bound Finnie Have I missed anything?
April 19, 201312 yr Hi Elle, one post you say you know nothing, then say you know about things when people try to advise you? If you need to know specific things, then ask that question, as it's hard to give you general advice. If your hen was using nest box and then you changed it, of course she will be nervous about it. You can't change things mid- stream without upsetting things. Set up your cage add birds of breeding age and condition and go from there. Instead of trying to tame skye, why not wait for new chicks and tame those? If she's older and hasn't been tamed early she may not ever be tame enough to come out of cage. As to what colours you would get that depends on what your birds are split to etc . others may help with that.
April 20, 201312 yr Author hello guys thankyou for being so supportive ! :thankyou: also she has been inside it now (YAY!) also i have a skye blue budgie and a wild colouration budgie with no dilute...halfside ect... what baby colours do you think the chicks will be? thanks, elle ps. ive never breed and this is my only pair of budgies
April 20, 201312 yr Hi Elle, Even though you have a blue and normal green? I'm assuming that's what your cock bird is. Their parents may have been e.g pied's or spangle or some other mutations, that don't appear on your birds. When you breed them you may get a few little surprises as to colouring/mutations etc. I'm not up on genetics myself to advise but that's half the fun!! not knowing what you may end up with.
April 20, 201312 yr hey elle we support you and we are just making sure you do this right. Budgies take patients, Its a waiting game with worth wild results. I would love to see close ups of your budgies and pictures of there wings and back of head. Bit hard with the avatar photo on your profile. Cheers LJ
April 20, 201312 yr Author I have tried so many ways to post pics on this and it won't work!! Grrrrrrrrr
April 21, 201312 yr imageshack.us is your best bet. You said you was on a tablet pc. maybe if you can get on a laptop this site is much easier on a laptop or desktop computer. mouse and keyboard.
April 22, 201312 yr hey elle heres a video of how to do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uz4LlhnrIH4 thats as much I can help you with that.
May 1, 201312 yr HI Elle.....you mentioned one of your budgies is an adult but what age is the other one ? Also nothing has been mentioned about them being in breeding condition and are they moulting ? What cere colours at the moment ?

Elle on further advice from Kaz. where I mentioned about parents could be spangle etc. they can't be spangle if they don't look like a spangle if that makes sense. They have to either be spangle visually or not they can't be split for spangle. Kaz will hopefully correct this if I'm still off the track l.o.l

May 15, 201312 yr Author hey guys, been up in naplan so havnt had time, also dj is missing 5 flight feathers and i found them on the ground suspect is skye,, dj was playing with me and i took my hand out of the cage and skye went over and attacked him right to the point he was upside down, she was biting and pulling on his legs, and so he cant fly now should i take him to the vet because he keeps on putting that wing out, thanks guys, elle
May 16, 201312 yr Can you put them is separate cages for a while? Do you have a nest box in cage? If your hen is being that aggressive I'd take him out to let his wing recover, maybe in a cage next to Skye so they can still be together but she can't get at him. Does he have any open or bleeding bites or just hurt from her pulling feathers?
May 17, 201312 yr Author hi, i do have a nestbox in the cage, but it seems the aggresion only happens when i put my hand in the cage she may not have of pulled them out......... he may have? thanks oh and no he doesnt have any open bites here they are, a while ago though, the breeding box is on the outside now
