Posted April 15, 201312 yr I heard that Show budgies have shorter life period than general English budgies. Is that true? Do they get sick easily because of a little stress? Do they sometimes die during the flight of 10 hours? I wonder if it is true. And I heard that they don't breed as well as normal bidgies. Is it difficult for them to breed even when I trim the feathers around the vent?

Do they sometimes die during the flight of 10 hours? I wonder if it is true. And I heard that they don't breed as well as normal bidgies. Is it difficult for them to breed even when I trim the feathers around the vent? First of all, there is a bit of a debate over the terminology. When most people use the term English, they mean Show or Exhibition types. And for the smaller, pet types, for some reason people like to call those "Americans", which is just horrible, seeing as they are an Australian bird! The term "Pet type" is much better suited to the smaller version of budgies. But I am not sure if you mean to differentiate between the larger types that get shown and do not get shown, or whether you mean to differentiate between the larger types and the smaller types. Your question seems to pertain to the particular stresses of transporting budgies to the actual shows. I know Australia is a big country, but do they really have a 10 hour flight to get to a show? Secondly, I do believe there are differences in fertility, clutch size, parenting ability, activity and life span, with the pet types being superior in all of these. Show type budgies dominate in the areas of size, calmness, and ability to win prizes. (PS, on this forum, my enter button doesn't work, so sorry for typing in one long paragraph.)
April 17, 201312 yr Wouldn't we reffer the Wild Type to the Australian? the standard color from their natural habitat. but yeah its pretty funny we have English then American. when they originated from Australia. You need a new keyboard finnie or is it a laptop.
April 17, 201312 yr It's internet explorer version 10. This started happening when they upgraded me. I started getting all kinds of funky problems, but most other websites don't interfere with my typing, only this one. (Lol, and yes, my whole computer is lousy. It needs to be refurbished.)
April 18, 201312 yr Nice Finnie. I agree, why call them English or American, THEY'RE AUSTRALIAN!! I have a pair and they are so cute together, always preening, never stopping, and that's literal. I personally prefer the 'American' budgie not English but not as small as the native ones. They are more vibrant in my opinion. Edited April 18, 201312 yr by Finnie

Plus, my computer is bad with those as well. We have gotten a backup drive, and my husband plans to save all our stuff to that and then wipe our computer clean and start it over.
April 25, 201312 yr I heard that Show budgies have shorter life period than general English budgies. Is that true? Any budgie that is bred often will have a shorter lifespan....people who are into show budgies are more likely to keep them breeding on a more regular basis to obtain good show type progeny and this may limit their lifespan....same can be said for any budgie that is bred...it will have a shorter lifespan than a budgie that isnt bred. Do they get sick easily because of a little stress? No more than any other budgie under the same stresses Do they sometimes die during the flight of 10 hours? I wonder if it is true. What flight ? And I heard that they don't breed as well as normal bidgies. Smaller pet types often do breed more prolifically but it may just be that breeding show budgies for certain features is more important to some breeders than breeding budgies for the fertility that family of birds possesses Is it difficult for them to breed even when I trim the feathers around the vent? no Hope this helps Edited April 25, 201312 yr by **KAZ**
