i just heard my budgies making a noise like they were banging on the cage or something, i look up and one of the females has one foot on the side of the cage and one foot on the roof of the food container and she was lifting the door then letting it drop repeatedly. haha she seemed to be having fun with it.

...i love that i bought them some new toys on the weekend and i havent seen the girls play with theirs, but hey the cage door will do! haha

 

i have heard about budgies letting themselves out of cages before. my girls refuse to go out of the cage though.

Budgies will have a go at anything as they are so inquisitive and michevious. I had some young budgies recently manage to slide back an opening on the roof of a cage (of course when the cage was put outside for the first time) - end result was my favourite budgie chick plus one flying off into the wild blue yonder, never to be seen again. The sliding section of the roof of this cage is now securely wired. And I always put a peg on cage doors to prevent accidental releases.

Yes that was almost the same incident as mine flip. Lucky I caught them in the act. I just do the same put peggs on all doors and any opening. You never know they could get out if big enough.

i always fear that. when i had them outside i had pegs on. they worried me too much!

but i have left their doors open a number of times and they wont budge.

I clip pegs on mine. But I also recommend make my doors tighter.

One of my budgies did this when I was 7 but my mum caught him lucky she was home.

I have two male budgies, one a year old and the other slightly younger. They are Mischa and Baby. Baby is the youngest and is a rainbow budgie. I let them out for about an hour a day and they fly around while I clean their cage. Often times they will return to the cage by themselves. Today I put Mischa in first and closed the top door of the cage so he would not decide to fly out, but I did not lock it. Baby decided to show off and would not let me bring him back. So I left him alone and when I turned around, Baby had flown to the closed top door of the cage and actually pulled it open with his beak and hopped right in !!  So now his new name is Baby Einstein!
