Posted April 13, 201312 yr I ordered a bunch of stuff for toy-making, and it arrived today! I got it from My Safe Bird Store, and I must say their customer service is wonderful, and great prices too . Here're pictures of the stuff, and I'll post some more pictures of toys I make out of them: some coconut rope and GIANT leather strips palm leaf flowers tubes of chewing fun lol palm links braided palm and little nibbley balls Leather hearts and butterflies linking stars and hearts plastic links tube beads Letter beads peanut beads linking thingies plastic rope plastic wheel beads.
April 13, 201312 yr These all look amazing! I wish you luck and cannot wait to see what is born from these wonderful things.x
April 19, 201312 yr Author Okay, a couple toys I've made with the new stuff (and some stuff I already had):
April 23, 201312 yr Author I made three more toys This one... This one (his name's Allen, but I didn't have the right letters, and 'Buddy' is one of his nicknames lol)... And this one. I thought it looked sort of like a weird little guy, so I'm calling it "Peter the Peanut Person" (see the plastic peanut beads?). Yes, I know I'm strange.
April 24, 201312 yr Author I (with help from my dad!) built this plagym/perchy thing for Allen today! Compared to the old T-perch. Also, I gave him one of those paper fingers (see first post, titled 'tubes of chewing fun') a week or so ago, and here's all thats left! enjoy!
April 25, 201312 yr Just a word of caution...having had tragic experinces myself with my birds and known of many birds hung by threads any longer than two inches seeing longer lengths of string or cord fills me with dread....please cut them shorter or rethink the longer pieces
April 26, 201312 yr Agree with Kaz about this. How about adding more beads so the string is full of beads and tie the loops tight to the clips so there is no loop for them to catch their neck in. Good job anyway, with a bit of thought I bet you come up with more toys than Allen "Buddy" can handle. l.o.l.
April 27, 201312 yr Author Thank you for warning me, but I know Allen very well and he doesn't like tight spaces. He never puts his head through any sort of loop or small hole. And that thread is actually pretty thick, and stiff too. It would be very hard for a bird to get tangled in it (especially one that behaves the way the does). The 'thread' is not thread, but (all-natural) hemp cord, and is not all tangly. He loves to chew it, so I leave long strands. Knowing Allen, I'm not concerned.
