Posted April 8, 201312 yr Ive had my budgie for a month , but two weeks later we went on holiday so he went to stay with parent in laws. When he got home he was flying around the room and getting on my finger. But after a few hours when i was trying to get him on my finger (he's still learning) he bit me twice so i left him alone then he went to bite my boyfriend. So we left him for the night. Next day he was fine till 6pm and then bit me again. If any one could please help me i would be great full.
April 8, 201312 yr did your budgie bite before he went to your parent in law?? if not then I was advise to see if anything happened cause by the sounds of this, he may be a bit concerned or have lost trust. he may have been frightened accidently from people and that may have fractured trust but seen as he knows you, then he is sound enough to keep coming to you, just time and patience will tell, maybe hand feed him may help a bit. good luck
April 9, 201312 yr Author No he didnt. I dont understand why he was fine through out the day and only bit me at night thanks
April 17, 201312 yr It may be a pattern that he is learning. Birds are creatures of habit, and he may have learned that biting in the evening brings him some kind of reward. So he may be trying to make it his new routine. You may have to watch him diligently to see what happens just before, and just after, the bite. Ignoring the biting is a good way to extinguish the behavior. But if you are inadvertently rewarding him for it, he will do it more and more. For instance, if he wants you to leave him alone, and biting gets you to back off, then he will learn to become a bully. If he wants to be out of his cage, then if you can teach him that biting gets him "jail time", then you have a chance of stopping it, if he can make the connection. Good luck!
