Getting A New Budgie - Health Tips

I need info, We are getting another budgie in few weeks and id like info on how to worm and other things i should do when bringing it home

Do you have aviary or cage? Depends on age etc of your new bird. If it's to be put in with existing birds it will need to be quarantined for 3 weeks or so so make sure it's not carrying and disease it could pass to your other birds.

I personally give all new birds a drop of Ivamectin on back of neck, whether it shows any symptoms of illnes or not. It should clear up any internal worms etc it may have. Then I do my birds every 3 months.

If you are getting bird from breeder, ask a few questions, like, what mutation it is,. what parents were etc, for future referance also what diet it has been given so you can try to use similar veges etc.

Hope that helps a bit, others can probably add more, if you give us some more details.

thanks for your help.

Does the breeder house her birds indoors, or outdoors? If outdoors, then a drop of Ivermectin would be a good preventative. If indoors, then I would only do that if it looked like there was a reason to suspect that the bird had worms.
