Mixie And Lady

Hello everyone,

I had a post that I was working on but I got so busy and I didn't like the way I did it.

My first pair of budgies to breed are my Violet (Lady) and Yellow, some say creamino? (Mixie).

Well I had been trying to get my budgies to breed for about 2 years now, when I decided to separate the pairs, well I was successful!

There is 6 eggs in total the first on the 21st of February 2013 and the last on the last on the 3rd of March 2013.

She started to incubate the eggs the day after the first egg, so I thought that there would only be a few eggs 2 or 3 maybe, but there is now 6 eggs, 4 of which are old enough to be candled and they all seem to be fertilised the other two wont be ready to candle for a day or more yet.

I will show you the pictures of the babies when they hatch and add the eggs on at that time too.

Well that is all I have to say and thanks to everyone on here, but especially a few people like Finnie and hilly!

well the chick was due yesterday and it still hasn't come, it is definitely fertalised

Don't panic. It depends when she started to sit on the eggs, it's around 18-21 days and some people say up to 23 days :)

The chick looks like its grown over night!! everyone thinks its ugly but I actually find it quite cute =o.

They are ugly but lovable and look how they turn out in 3 weeks!! They do grow o.night are your parents being "good" with feeding etc? No 2 shortly I suppose.

I love little pinkies and I think they are cute too :)

It sounds like mum must be feeding it. Wait and see if another one hatches and you will really see how much it has grown compared to a newly hatched baby.

Keep us posted :D

The motheris doing such a good job feeding it when needed pretty much always in the nest box, the second egg is due to hatch this arv o tomorrow. Yes i have seen them at 3 weekson the internet adn they are adorable. I am so happy i have wanted these for 2 years now!

well done Budgie_Mad!! i cant wait to see what beautiful colours are going to show with these two parents :) also, dont check on the nest too often because otherwise there is a high probability of them rejecting the babies because you have put your smell around and they might not like it so just be cautious:) im happy for you:)

Hi Budgie Mad! :D

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I've been pretty busy with my own chicks lately, and haven't gotten on the forum as much as usual.

So did I read it right that Mixie is the dad, and is a creamino, with red eyes? So then all the female chicks will have red eyes as well.

Twice a day is a good number of times to check on the chicks. That gives you a chance to make sure they fed and cleaned properly, without over stressing the parents. Budgie mothers get very used to us removing their chicks for a good look-over, and then putting them back in the nest. If for some reason she is a messy feeder, and leaves dried on food over their face, then it is important to get that off before it hardens and misshapes the beak. It's also important to make sure the vent does not get dried waste stuck on it, which could prevent the next waste from coming out.

Those things aren't too common, but as long as you know the chicks are A-okay twice a day, then you will catch anything that does occur in time. :)

I can't wait to see pics of them as they hatch and grow!

Hi Finnie, looks like budgie_mad is busy, I thought the picture he posted of chick could have had redish eyes but he didn't say when I asked. If his creamino has red eyes maybe it has red eyes.

She is feeding with no mess vents are clean every time I have checked and that her nest keeping is clean no poops of hers.

Very nice, Budgie Mad. :)

One tip- you can remove the empty egg shells. Sometimes the mother will eat them for calcium, but if she doesn't, you don't want to take a chance that a loose egg shell will wrap around one of the other eggs and suffocate the chick inside. (I don't know if that's very likely. Nobody removes them from birds in the wild. But if my hens don't eat them, I remove mine just in case.)

okay thanks Finnie, just a question how do you get the photos on to the site, not the link to the website.

In the photo of the chick, I thought it looked like it could have red eyes. Can you tell if they are or do they look dark.

I remove shells also I have had a half shell cover another egg, (hard to remove them without damaging unhatched egg) so yes remove them.

Hi again, about posting pics. If you go to BUDGIE PICTURES there is a pinned article about how to post them, using photobucket. I think it has changed a bit (photbucket) since it was pinned but you should be able to follow it. Post again if you can't work it out. :)
