Posted February 24, 201312 yr Hello all Hoping these pics are good enough to figure out what sex our budgie sam is. We got him from a local pet shop end of November 2012 He had no tail when we bought him/her and seemed the others were picking on him/her so I had to get that one lol. Sam seems to be trying to talk and my hubby recons has to be a boy but after reading a lot of posts I have no idea still. I would like to get a friend for sam and maybe babies thats why im keen to find out the sex. Thank you for any advice and love this site Linda Edited February 24, 201312 yr by lindaiz
February 24, 201312 yr Author Thank you rachelm looks like its samatha lol she is feisty little thing so that explains it she is very friendly and smart though i have been getting her to eat from my hand she will jump on it all goes well then bam just has to bite me. She has started moulting so im guessing thats making her a bit cranky. Now I can look out for a male and see where things go in another year when shes older. Thanks again Cheers Linda
February 25, 201312 yr She looks like a hen, but since "she" might be a recessive pied, and male recessive pieds keep a pinkish cere for life (with or without white nostril rings) I wouldn't be too hasty to decide quite yet. The tail has grown back, and there are a few pin feathers, so if she were a hen, I would expect her cere to have started turning tan by now as well. I would wait until she finishes her molt, and if she still doesn't have a brown cere, post more photos on here and ask again.

When her cere turns brown, it will be obvious. You will know for sure then.
