Hi, I have two budgies. One male, named Bluestreak who I have owned for about three months and a female, Bumblebee, who I have owned for about six months. These two are my first birds I've owned, so I'm still fairly new to this.

 

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice regarding Bumblebee, my female. I've noticed over time she was having a build up on her beak, which looked like she wasn't able to clean it off properly herself. Once I got the new budgie, Bluestreak, I assumed he was able to assist. Obviously, this was not the case. Her cere seemed to worsen, more plaquey build up.

 

We thought it was mites, as advised by a pet stop assistant. We've been spraying her with mite spray for a few weeks, not much improvement other than to her dry sore feet (which I'm also concerned is related to her cere problem). Now the condition seems to have worsened, and she's formed two bumps on her cere.

 

I've called the vet today to ask about a check up, but I want to run it past some expert budgie breeders first? Hope this was okay.

I could be scaly mite and you can't get rid of it with a spray. You need to use ivermectin, it's the best treatment to use. It looks pretty advanced it may take a while to clear up.

Definitely scaley mite as Nadene suggested ivermectin will do the trick you may have to repeat the dose in a couple of weeks to clear it though.

If your male budgie lives in the same cage with Bumblebee, you should treat him for scaley-face mites too. Good luck
