Posted February 18, 201312 yr (Edit: I have merged both of your topics about this into one thread. It might read a little funny, as people had been posting replies separately in both of them. Now everything is all together. -Finnie) Hey I am wondering what colours I am likely to get from this pair the male is the yellow and the female the purple. (I hope the photos work if not just say). that is for the female and the male is Edited February 22, 201312 yr by Finnie
February 18, 201312 yr That green one is a interesting budgie. I would like to know what you would get out of them also.
February 18, 201312 yr Can I suggest perhaps the yellow one is a Creamino which is a sex linked gene. So if I understand correctly you may get ino hens. Also possibly yellow face blues and normals. Also there could be other things I dont see. I am very much learning myself still : )
February 19, 201312 yr Author thank you I am so interested in it and they are expected to lay on Saturday or Sunday (23rd or 24th is the expected date of lay). I will update the post and add some of the babies when they are younger but of course older. If anyone else could say it would be valued to and does that mean I cant get a purple budgie?
February 20, 201312 yr the "purple" I would call more blue, I think she is a normal cobalt. don't quote me on that.
February 20, 201312 yr Author I know she appears blue in the photo, however she is purple its just my camera, it always does that i show people the photo and they are convinced its blue but then they come over and they say she is indeed purple.
February 21, 201312 yr It's very hard sometimes to get the violet to show up in photos. Make sure you don't use a flash and try and take the photo in natural light.
February 21, 201312 yr Author yes thats what i was thinking, however it has been raining for a while here and welll its hard when no natural light
February 21, 201312 yr Author I got home just now and there was my first egg, yay, she is taking good care of it and I am hoping for more, but not too many for her
February 22, 201312 yr So if I understand correctly you may get ino hens. That's right, an ino cock will only produce ino daughters. All the hens will be inos. Creamino cock X normal violet hen will produce: If the yellow face cock is split to blue, you will get 50% yellowface and 50% blue. If not, you will get all yellowface chicks. All the males will be normal split to ino, all the hens will be inos. Violet factor will depend on whether the hen is single or double factor, and whether or not the male also has violet factor. Since violet factor shows up best on a cobalt bird, that will also depend on how many dark factors the creamino cock is masking. You never know what else the cock could be masking, and if both birds are split to recessive genes, there could be surprises. In another month or two, it will be like Christmas at your house, Budgie_Mad!
February 22, 201312 yr Hi budgie_mad, Agree %100 with finnie. Just want to say you might want to treat your birds with ivermectin as they look like they may have the beginnings of scaley face. I would wait at least until she has finished laying though because you don't want to hanle her while she has eggs inside her. Just keep an eye on them for the moment. Good luck hope you have lots of babies. Cheers Jenny
February 22, 201312 yr Author thanks that info is really helpful, and thanks for the heads up on scaly face I was thinking that too but was unsure about it while laying =) also thanks finnie, for answering a lot of my questions and for fixing my posts!
