Possible Egg?

My female budgie has mated and has huge droppings, she's in and out of the nest box and in a post that kaz was talking in 2007 about egg bum with a photo is it possible that my female is going to lay. I will try to put a photo on tomorrow as I am on my iPod at the moment. But please help I am so excited but not so excited that I watch constantly. I just check them morning and night. Thanks for thoughts but will try to get photo up quickly.

she should lay usually around the afternoon.

But you might see her sleep in the nestbox the night before she lays.

I dunno photos are bad as you said, I just would sit back and relax.

Looks like you went out at night and took photos.

Sometimes we need to let the budgies do their thing. I notice you are colony breeding, I think the best way to do colony breeding is going in there once every 3 days. but still change the water every day. my water is close to the entrance.

okay so i got home just now adn i check for an egg, and there was an egg, yay, she appears to be taking care of it. I am so happy

Congrats on your first egg. Exciting times ahead. Keep in mind some hens may not sit on eggs untill the 3rd or 4th egg has been laid. Hopefully you will have your first pinky in 18-21 days.

thanks, yeah I noticed she wasn't incubating, and can you touch the egg to candle it?

you gotta give it some time before candling it.

Hi Yes candle at a week old at the earliest but don't discard it until egg is 10 days old....B.J.

okay good I hope it's fertile or at least one will be. Fingers crossed.

She's started two incubate it and its only tomorrow so she lays it one afyernoon and incubates it next morning is that okay.

I wouldn't discard it at all... if this is your first time breeding there is no way that you are going to be 100% certain that it's fertile or not, let it sit until a couple of days after its due date.
