Posted February 16, 201312 yr Hi there, my partner and I are disputing whether Motley is a M or F , I think its a girl mainly because of her behaviour, she is very nasty and a bully to our other birds , we found her approx 3 months ago being attacked by lorikeets and her prev owner hacked the feathers off her wing so she couldnt fly , so her wing has since started growing back .... we had her isolated as of a couple of weeks ago , but we trialed her in our bIgger cage with our other 2 budgies (M&F) a cockatiel and a Rosa Bourke and she has just taken over , the others dont even want to go back into their cage when she is in there , and when we do finally get them in , she chases them off their purches and bites their tails and wings , she is really agressive , but with my male Budgie she seems to get along with him fine , i have isolated her again into her own cage so they can at least get some sleep , when they are out of the cage they can at least fly away from the little terror ! her cere is also a laventder colour which is what is making my partner think its a boy EVEN though I have shown him pics of females with Lavender ceres , I would love to hear from the experts if possible ! February 18, 201312 yr Agree with the rest. I can understand why he is saying its a M. There is a bluish tinge to the cere but it's definitely a female.
February 22, 201312 yr Yup, hen. I will say, Bourke's parakeets are a gentle species, and shouldn't be housed with budgies, as budgies are aggressive, and can hurt the Bourke's. It's probably just as well to make the hen sleep in a separate cage. Maybe she and the male budgie would be happy to live with each other, away from the other birds. (?)
February 22, 201312 yr Author Thank you so much for your replies I wonder if he will believe it still with all the experts responses ! The Rosa is a lovely bird and very sweet, when we first got her we were told to put her in with our finches , so we did and she was MISERABLE !! they were all zooming around her and she hated it , I then did some research and saw that they like to fly around and be sociable to an extent , she is happy in the cage with the others and follows the budgies around , especially chickee my male budgie , my cockatiel who unfortunately flew away on monday loved her too ... so glad we took her out of the finch cage , all of my birds except the finches only sleep in their cages , for the most part they are flying about the place .
