King Quail Chicks Dead!

Featured Replies

Posted

Hi,

My pair of King quails have just hatched 4 out of 5 eggs. I was very excited to see the gorgeous little chicks running around!!

They are in the bottom of the aviary with my budgies. A couple of hours later I went to check and all 4 chicks were dead. They had been attacked by something.

Would the budgies do that or would it be the father of the chicks?

Should I remove mum and chicks nest time?

Thanks,

Babychat

Most likely the father, they can be aggressive to chicks. :( As chicks are self feeding from hatching, you could separate Dad in future until chicks are older.

Budgies have been known to harass & kill Quail. On sites dedicated to Foreign Birds

breeders/keepers of mixed collections are advised against keeping any parrot type

bird with quail....B.J.
