Posted January 27, 201312 yr Hi, My pair of King quails have just hatched 4 out of 5 eggs. I was very excited to see the gorgeous little chicks running around!! They are in the bottom of the aviary with my budgies. A couple of hours later I went to check and all 4 chicks were dead. They had been attacked by something. Would the budgies do that or would it be the father of the chicks? Should I remove mum and chicks nest time? Thanks, Babychat
January 27, 201312 yr Most likely the father, they can be aggressive to chicks. As chicks are self feeding from hatching, you could separate Dad in future until chicks are older.
January 29, 201312 yr Budgies have been known to harass & kill Quail. On sites dedicated to Foreign Birds breeders/keepers of mixed collections are advised against keeping any parrot type bird with quail....B.J.
