I am interested to see if anyone can give me a clue about my violet hens genetics,

 

She is violet, yes, but what sort? (cobalt?) as she seems very light?

Goldenface? (double or single factor?)

Opaline?

Anything else?

goldenface - yes (would say single)

opaline - yes.

other genes - no

 

she appears more mauve to me in the pictures than violet,

She looks like she may also be a cinnamon on my monitor but it is a bit hard to tell.

I'm pretty sure she is violet as I also have a mauve budgie, but every bird is an individual!

But I will get some more photos

I agree with Hilly, her wings look cinnamon but if she was cinnamon wouldn't her tail be brown? Her tail looks blue in the first photo.

I don't see cinnamon, but then, photos and monitors aren't always accurate.

 

I think she might even be double factor goldenface, or goldenface/yellowface combo, seeing as how the yellow hasn't spread so much to her body and wings. (But that's just speculation, and I'm no expert at identifying types of yellow and golden face combinations. Just know what I've learned on the forum here, that when they are combined or doulbed up, their bodies look different.)

I think you could be right. I had three cinnamon yellowface hens before, and you could tell it easily, but on one of them, it was harder to see until after she molted.

 

What color is the quill of her tail feathers?

I would say a dark blue, black sort of colour. I stood looking for ages haha, it is a dark colour, does that mean anything?

Hi Kathryn she looks like a yellowface opaline cinnamon violet and it is the cinnamon that softens her colours a bit.

I think in one of your nest shots there is a moulted feather that looks brown, on my monitor anyway.

Her markings are dark for a cinnamon but it may just be the violet influence.

Cool, so if the chicks are cinnamon the father would have to be split for cinnamon as it is a sexed link mutation and that could give the chicks plum eyes?

Yes, the father would have to be split to cinnamon for it to show up. Either way, all of the boys will be split to cinnamon because they will at least get it from their mother.

So, would that give them plum eyes being split?

No only visual cinnamons have the plum eyes.

Chick, seems to have light eyes and when they began to open had a reddish tinge?

They do look plum to me though photos can be deceiving.

Won't be long now and you will know for sure the way they are growing lol.

The plum eyes will turn black after a few days, so by the time the eyes start to open, mine have not been plum anymore. But I suppose that if you get the right light, you would be able to see a brownish, reddish color, even throughout their whole life.

 

That's the way the cinnamon gene works in all parrot species. The eyes start out plum or red, and then turn to a dark red brown within a few days, but appear as black.
