No I hadn't been online for awhile.

Tillys Clutch

19th 21st 23rd 25th 27th, Jan, 2013

5 eggs last one came late is this normal?

Also I'm not sure if these eggs are fertile the first one should be due to hatch Thursday, Feb 14th, am I right?

I see no veins on any of them eggs.

Even know she sits on them all night and comes out for 4 mins then sits on them for a long duration.

I can see these white lines on the narrow peak of the eggs, when I shine a torch on them, I am not sure if this means anything.

Budgie eggs take about 18 days to hatch, once the hen starts to incubate them. Some hens start sitting from the first egg, in which case yours would have been due to start hatching on Wednesday. But by that time, candling them should show them to be solid dark inside. So if you are still seeing clear eggs, then they are not fertile.

If it were me and I wanted to try again with this pair, I would close up the door to the nest box so that the hen is forced to spend some quality cage time with the cock. Give them at least a week to see if they show signs of courting and bonding. Don't worry about witnessing actual mating. But some hens are known to be so excited about a nest box, that they go right into it to lay, and skip that sort of crucial first part. ;)

There is also the possibility that they just aren't in condition right now, so you can close up the door to the box until they look ready.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes with your other pair, too.

yeah I have them in a aviary, so nest boxes right around the aviary.

I witnessed allot of mating with her and her mate. she had a mate before him, then he took over.

Her new mate was mating with another hen, but I removed her.

because hen with eggs, was doing big poo's lol.

I didn't wanna deal with conflicts.

These eggs are clear up top top.

took eggs away today. checked the health of my hen.

she has a red spot above her vent. not sure if this is a tumor or just her moulting.

today I took all nestboxes out of aviary and took all young and unpaired birds out of the sex separated cages then placed them in the aviary.

now I have my 2 pairs in 2 individual cages with nestboxes.

I was watching tilly and bart mate, I think they was trying to do there mating quickly because of the other pair in with them.

must add he wasn't getting the right spot(vent) so it seemed, as my girlfriend put it oh he just thinks he has done the job now by sperming on her back, now his chasing mr teddy around cause his proud.

The Teddy's well they had been breeding in breeding cages when I got them, so I don't think they liked sharing a cage with another pair. even know I had witnessed them mating, She never laid.

So I hope this works.

I am going to start working on my breeding cabinets soon I have 6 to make. plus a nursery.

Well today I had to take out tilly. I don't think she was in-condition.

Bart has a new mate and after I put her in the cage bart done a bit of beak pecking for 3 mins, then mounted her.

twice I seen this happen.

How perfect.

I knew these would pair up fast because they were the first birds to be a pair in the aviary, until she went out of condition, so she must be in condition again.

That's a good start anyway.

Cheers Jenny

Mrs And Miss Teddy.

4/3/2013 - this one I found broken at the bottom of the cage. not sure what happened. She probably accidentally broke it. she could of even been trying to move it to the concave and it broke. dunno trivial lol.

6/3/2013 - she is sitting on it.

Hi L_J if Sonic is the blue bird in the middle of the photo he is an opaline cobalt or maybe violet sometimes the photos don't show the colour properly.

Cheers Jenny

Ahh I think, Sonic might be cobalt. comparing him to Mr Teddy.

Thanks for your answer :)

what outcomes will I be getting out of these pair.

Tilly - Opaline Dilute and Sonic - Cobalt Opaline?

Edited by L__J

It will depend on what genetics Sonic may be hiding but all of your babies will be opaline and all of them will be blue.

Tilly looks skyblue so you should get both skyblues and cobalts.

any idea of mr teddy and mrs teddy possible outcomes?

I Did have one of her daughters I think, but I exchanged her for a male because I had too many females.

I am sure it was her daughter because they hung around.

I Have posted wrong bird. This is the suspect daughter that I do not have anymore.

imag0074c.jpg

So the bird in the front is the suspect daughter of the Teddies up the back.

Hi L_J,

Mrs Teddy might of laid that first egg off the perch instead of in the nest box, they sometimes do this if they are inexperienced (i watched one of my hens do it yesterday with her first egg) :)

  • Author

Hey this egg was broken and there was no yolk so meaning it was done in the box.

Well I am not sure if Apples laid today or yesterday but I found a egg. so thats 3 hens laying.
