Floor Of Aviary

Hi all,

I have been putting wood shavings on top of my cancrete slabs for the aviary.

Is it better to have just the concrete or use the wood shavings? I have 2 quail as well so I would still need to put something in for them to scratch in, maybe not quite as thick as I have been putting in???

Thanks in advance,

Babychat

Hi Babychat I'd say it's a matter of choice. If you hose out your aviary the wood shavings could be a problem. I have pavers on mine and scrape off the droppings sweep husks etc vacuum it up with old cleaner, about once a month. In between I sweep up husks, old carrot tops spinach etc weekly.

As long as it's easy to keep clean and dry and you can pick up any signs of trouble with shavings, (eg insects or spider, mice etc) birds would probably scratch around in them as well.
