What Do You Feed Them?

Hi all,

I have 20+ breeding budgies and I give them bok choy, spinach, apple, corn, broccoli and carrot, along with their seed, cuttle bone, calcium bells and egg and biscuit mix ( brought from pet shop )

What else would you suggest adding into their diet, what do you give to your birds?

What plants/flowers/trees do you give your birds?

Thanks

I give my birds a soft food mix with mashed egg (boiled for 30min), soaked wheat, mung bean sprouts, good oil for birds (Passwell) along with the other veg you mentioned and sometimes raw beetroot.I also put the cooked eggs in the food processor with quick oats or multigrain bread to make a crumbly consistency. My birds go crazy for it, especially at breeding and moulting times.

Hi Add more fruit & with the others above. That just about covers it..B.J.

Yes, I forgot the oranges and lemons. I once gave my budgies a bunch of grapes. I checked back on them a couple of hours later to find they had completely eaten all the stalk and left all the grapes. I have tried them with banana a couple of times and they never ate it.

That all sounds good to me. I have trouble getting my little Allen to eat anything besides lettuce, carrots and broccoli; plus his seed mix and assorted cereal, bread products, and he also likes cooked rice. But I think I should have a better variety of veggies.

Do you just add those two things together you do you add something else to hold it together?

If he eats lettuce, he ought to be willing to try other greens, too. Have you tried collard greens, spinach or swiss chard? When spring comes, pick chickweed, shepherd's purse and dandelions. (As long as you know they haven't been sprayed with anything.)

So far I have not been successful with any fruits other than oranges.
