Hello, attached should be a picture or link to my daughters 2nd pair, a Lutino hen & a blue male, but what type of blue is he & are these colour pairings the way to go ? Also what type of male should be paired with a albino hen to hopefully produce a albino male ? thanks

 

That looks like sky blue,

Albino is sex linked. An albino hen with a nice sky blue cock will produce albino sons. But she will also produce albino sons with a violet. They would however have a "pinkish" sheen. So any shade of blue cock, including gray, but the lighter the cleaner looking your young cocks will be.

Wrong. An ino hen will always 100% of the time pass her ino gene to her male offspring. They will all be split, guaranteed.

thanks birdluv, Corka, Nerwen & Finnie, sorry got sick back in January and forget to get back to this Post and then was away for a bit. Hedwig is now 11 months so am thinking about what best to pair up with her. Unlike her sister Milkshake who has some very light tinges of blue and talks, Hedwig has no blue in her.

Here is my understanding of what to expect from pairing any normal Cock with an Albino hen

X X =normal Cock -- Xa Y =albino hen_ (No colour, pink eyes)

X Xa=normal cock split albino 50%

X Y=normal hen 50%

It is impossible to get a 100% Albino cock from this pairing even if the cock is showing albino to the eye It will throw colours in its offspring. to create 100% it will take 3 breeding seasons.

 

These are the further steps you would need to undertake if you wanted to create a pure albino line

Take albino split cock from previous step to a true albino hen, completely devoid of any pigment in feathers and showing pink eyes {preferably not its mother}

2nd step

X Xa / Xa Y

 

X Xa Normal split albino Cock 25%

X Y= Normal hen 25%

Xa Xa= Albino cock 25%

Xa Y= Albino Hen 25%

 

3rd step

Xa Xa albino cock / Xa Y Albino hen

 

Xa Xa Albino cock 50%

Xa Y Albino hen 50%

 

This does not take into account that the original normal cock may well be split for something that is not apparent to the eye but will show up in offspring, therefore taking more selective pairings than described here.

Made a little blunder with this description

Correction, A normal/ino X Xa cock will not show ino as the colouring carried from the normal chromosome will overpower and hide the ino, only further breeding or dna test can confirm if split or not.
