Posted January 7, 201312 yr Hi All I was just wondering if people use radios in the bird room? Why they use them? And do they work? Just seen them in bird rooms but never asked the question. Thanks for any info.
January 20, 201312 yr I have a radio in my bird room. I used to play a CD of water sounds, to give them the idea that it was breeding season. I can't say if they cared or not, cuz they bred anyway, even when the CD player quit working. Then I started leaving the radio on so it would mask any disturbing noises that might come from the kids playing in the next room. But between all the noise the birds make, I doubt they would care about the kids bothering them. Now I mostly just leave it on so I have something to listen to when I'm in there. I don't think they need it. I wonder if they would rather have it off.
January 23, 201312 yr LOL finnie. when I had my budgies inside hanging up near the radio. They would watch the radio to see if it would turn on.
January 24, 201312 yr I left the radio going for one of mine thats inside because I am worried his sick, today while I went out and he was watching the radio when we got back. Ahhh funny.
January 24, 201312 yr Yeah, I always leave a radio on when I go out for any that are alone or in quarantine. Don't want them to be alone in the silence.
February 7, 201312 yr Author Been using the radio for just over a month now. The birds are noisier They are more settled especially during the night They seem to be laying about 30 percent more eggs per clutch. Also getting a better fertility rate. Don't know if this is just coincidence or if its the radio, they all seem to be a bit more active too, will continue to post updates when I have tested it for longer but at the moment I think it's worth using.
February 7, 201312 yr That would be about the time you seen the radio in my shed Mark , me and the birds couldn't live without it mate. Going to wait another month or so before i put that male down i got off you. Hows the breeding going has that Welshman pair started to lay? Did you lose any birds in the extreme heat we had i lost seven
February 8, 201312 yr Author All birds did well in the heat, think the Cages are in a good spot, shade cloth over the top works wonders. All birds have eggs.
