Posted December 13, 201212 yr I needed a solution to separate the young from the aviary this was my solution. 3 shelfs that will eventually have cover on the lower shelfs. will be getting a clear plastic for front that I can roll up on sunny days. This cost me nothing as I salvaged wood from a rubbish tip with a wood pile. planning on making some more shelfing for my storage needs. H. 1.8 , W. 800 D. 600
December 13, 201212 yr Great work L-J. I love recycling and what better to recycle for than our budgies. These shelves would be great in a bird room too. The solid sides and plastic front would help prevent dust getting on important things or stuff with engines etc.
December 13, 201212 yr Author planning on getting more of these cages once I fully cover the sides. Would budgies be safe down the bottom?
December 13, 201212 yr Im not sure. Too new to this game to make such a call. You need to wait for a reply from the experts for that. The only problem that is immediately apparent to me would be ease of rodent access. But someone with banks of breeding cages would know better.
March 26, 201312 yr Hi, I agree with Pebble lower shelf would be easy access to rats/cats and any other predators that may be around. If they are outside an Aviary that is. I think I'd use lower shelf to store "stuff" like shellgrit seed in containers etc. even a mouse trap or two l.o.l
March 28, 201312 yr Author yup I have stored misc stuff on that shelf. I am in the process of getting my mini breeding room setup. I have made a make shift roof between my garden shed and carport. this space is good. I will utilize as much space as possible because I am in units.
March 28, 201312 yr It's great you have some space to enjoy the buds. Even with a big yard we still have to be careful of council regs, neighbours etc. It's hard to have as many as we'd like!!! Well we must all make the best of what we have and be grateful for that. Good luck with your project, add some pics when your done.
March 30, 201312 yr Author My council has laws against what size slabs of cement you lay. I am not laying any slabs As for building a shelter I don't think there is a problem either as long as I don't lay slab. My next door neighbor has a nice chicken coop. it would make a good aviary its so big. He hasn't finished putting his mesh on yet but dam his done a good job. I don't think I will have any problems with my neighbors both sides of me. I asked the lady next door if my birds are noisy she looked at me and said what budgies. She said the ones in the tree's are noisy and hopes they move on soon. We get plovers land on our roof all the time here, The only bird I hate is them plovers, they are up all night. My breeding room shall be quite, I built a recording booth, so I should be able to sound proof it so the noses go a certain direction. lol Edited March 30, 201312 yr by L__J
March 30, 201312 yr We have limits on size and amount of sheds/aviary's etc we can have. Know what you mean about plovers, great watch dogs though. We had a pair hatch 3 chicks in my front garden, for 4 weeks we knew whenever anyone came close to our home.
March 31, 201312 yr Author Here is my new banks the roof is temporary weighed downed with car tires, will be making it allot higher so it connects to neighbors roof and will be fixing his mistake he made, he should of went under his guttering with his sheets of iron, now I have to fabricate a L shape bit of iron to pop rivet to guttering and our sheets of iron so water don't leak through. Teddy's are in the top breeding cabinet she laid today. did have Mrs & Mr teddy in the white flight cages with a nest box like apples. top ones have creamino & sky blue cinnamon hen in them with no nest box now as they aren't needed because I am going to use both these cages for separation of my young juveniles. In that green cage Apples & Bart are going to be busy next few weeks raising a family. added some photos on imageshack of my setup today. Edited March 31, 201312 yr by L__J
