New To Budgies

Featured Replies

I have started playing with breeding some budgies. I have an sky blue breeding with a violet and a green breeding with a spangle.

The blues are thoriwng a mix of blue and opalines, and this one has just been kicked from the box. How would you describe this bird.

I am thinking of keeping her and breeding with a yellow face, as I think the babies would look good. Is this a good idea??

Thanks for your help....

I'm no expert in color genetics but it looks as though it is a normal cinnamon. Looks like a really nice bird.

Thanks

Well correct me if I'm wrong,( I usually am on genetics.) BUT if chick is cinnamon and neither parent are visual cinnamon, Dad must be split cinnamon as Mum can't be split as cinnamon is a sex linked factor? That's if you have caged pairs not colony breeding. :)

The chick is also opaline. :)

Welcome to the forum!

If you would like to know what this chick can produce with your yellow face cock, give us photos of him, and also of his parents if you have them. Photos of the parents of this chick would help, too. (Besides, we love photos on here! :D )

Thanks for the help. I am planning on sourcing a gold face, looking for nice sky blue body I think.

Father is sky blue, female violet, siblings are mostly opaline.

One of her siblings has the genetic walking thing and twisted feathers. I thought at first this was due to parents aggression clearing out the nest box, but as not improving I am not thinking it is the genetic thing. I have to research the genetic thing as I vaguely remember from 20 years ago about it,

"Please explain" One of her siblings has the genetic walking thing and twisted feathers.??? This is a new one for me, although I've only been breeding 2-3 years.

Do you have any pictures to show this?

Sorry for the slow reply. I am not sure what it is. I have one brid that cannot fly, has dodgy flight feathers, and twisted feathers. I have done some reading about feather dusters. I will also look for french moult now.

I should try and get some pictures so members can give me some real advice, but I am trying to do my own homework first.

Thanks,

Steve

If you have french moult in the nest, it is probably best to clean the nest thourouly after this batch of chicks fledge and seperate the pair for now. If you have a feather duster same deal, but don't put the parents back together in the future. As previoulsly stated the Dad bird has to be split for both opaline and cinnamon in view of the appearance of this chick. Hope your younguns and their parents are all well soon.
