Posted November 5, 201212 yr Hi Everyone I have a very sick Bird named Henry I have had henry since abt 6 weeks old. He is now 5 months. Henry is having trouble breathing, making little wheasing sounds and is obviously in distress. His poos are very runny, vent is dirty 1 nostril is blocked and is fluffed up and is quite lethargic. He is eating and drinking though. Henry was in my main avery with other birds that dont seem to be sick. He is now in a Hospital Cage. can anyone offer any ideas as to what is hapening here or can anyone recomend a good Avian Vet in the Albury Wodonga area. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated Thanks Paul
November 5, 201212 yr Hi Sorry can't help as I'm in the UK. I suggest you ring round the vets & ask if they are into birds or can they recommend a colleague in you area....B.J.
November 5, 201212 yr Put him under a lamp for warmth, do you have any meds like Ivamectin? It could be air sac mites or some other infection, If you have the Ivamectin one drop behind head. You will have to act quickly to save him, hope you can find a AVIAN vet for him or see what others advise. Do you have cement floor in Aviary or soil?
November 6, 201212 yr Author found a good avian vet in albury. im quite impressed with her efforts..now its a matter of time for henry
November 6, 201212 yr Good news, fingers crossed for him. Did she say what she thought it was? Hope it's not a contagious to your other birds.
November 6, 201212 yr Author she is thinking a respiratory infection, have several different meds seems to be a bit of guess work Have just finished cleaning out aviary, and will do a newspaper lining for a day and get the poos checked out. All the other birds look in good health at this point but as Henry did they could be hiding any illness and could go down hill in a short time. At leas Henry has hopped onto the perch in his hospital bed but isn't eating at this stage. Time will tell Paul
May 15, 201312 yr Well its been a while since I posted here. Little henry sadly didn't make it. He battled along for some time but finally succumbed to his illness. All other birds seem to be well, none showing any signs of illness over the last six months.
