Posted October 15, 201212 yr Hi everyone. New to this forum having just found it. I bread budgies when I was a kid and had 30 or so, but as I got older I had less and less time for them. This year I was diagnosed with secondary cancer in my lungs and to take my mind off chemo my girlfriend and kids bought me a largish cage whcih I soon filled with some young budgies. I got an aviary off afriend and buolt a couple of breeding boxes and as of tonight I already have 11 eggs. I have had a passion for budgies since I was 12 and it has all come back to me again so quickly. Been finding it hard though to find some good dark blues to breed with. I have looked for a little while but the pieds and mixed colours seem to be popular. Anyway, thanks for letting me join.
October 15, 201212 yr Hi and welcome, sorry to hear about your illness, I hope you have great results with your treatment. Sounds like you are off to a flying start with your breeding, I suggest you have at least two boxes per hen, the more the better, they can be nasty things when they want the same box but you probably know that already from your childhood experiences. I think having birds is great therapy, I have a neurological disorder and looking after my birds keeps me getting out of bed every day I hope you get the enjoyment from them as I do. Cheers Jenny
October 15, 201212 yr Welcome to the forum. Keep a positive attitude to your illess and treatment. Sounds like you already have some great support with family. If your little buds can help that's another positive. Good luck with everything and keep posting (with pics) if possible when your chicks hatch. :)
October 16, 201212 yr Author Thanks Jenny and Robyn. Its just taken my mind of things which is really good. Yep I have enough nesting boxes so all good. Today is the "other day" of laying so expecting another egg from each of the 3 hens. Another couple also seem chummy and she has been spening a lot of time in the nest box. The kids love it too. They get so excited when I announce we have a new egg. I will try and get some pics. But at the moment, the mums arent keen to leave the nesting boxes and I wont disturb them so I have to wait until the leave for their 8 hourly poo. Thanks again for the wlecome. Craig.
