Posted October 3, 201212 yr Hello!! I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on if my blue budgie is male or female?? at first I thought it was male because there is blue on its cere. Then I read that female budgies can have light blue and white ceres. Has anyone had a budgie like this who seemed to have a light blue cere, then it went very dark blue and turned out to be male? I'm also not sure how old this one is, but I think it is still a baby. Maybe 6 months plus though as it has the white ring around its eyes? http://www.s0re.net/...ie/IMG_4719.JPG http://www.s0re.net/...ie/IMG_4733.JPG Thanks!! Edited October 3, 201212 yr by suzsbirds
October 3, 201212 yr No, it is a female. The yellow one is a male, so you have a nice pair there. Wait until you are sure they are at least a year old before you breed them. First time parents sometimes dont get it right, and if they are immature, it makes it worse. If you have no idea on their ages, assume they were two month old babies when you bought them, and wait for a year after that, to make sure. They look pretty young to me in those photos. October 3, 201212 yr Author Thanks for your advice .. especially finnie who thinks its a female!..... which is what I'm hoping it is! .. I will hold off trying to breed them until they are quite a bit older then.
October 4, 201212 yr definitely female - not in breeding condition. As Finnie said be sure they are of age.
