Posted September 27, 201212 yr Hi everyone, Just thought i would post some photos of my new cage (it's a bit to small to call an aviary) that was delivered today maybe i should have got 2, one for the birds and one for the kids
September 27, 201212 yr Looks good Nadene maybe you can add on as needed. Watch out until you can get a safety door added somehow. Also a 'lock, or like my sisters G.Daughter "who just wanted to pat them" and let them all out !!!
September 27, 201212 yr Author Thank you Robyn. I was told by hubby if I got a bigger one I would have to live in it too (he hates the birds). My biggest problem with the door is I have to find a way to secure it from the inside when I'm in it. I will be having a lock. I'm lucky my kids don't like to touch them, but they do like to put seeded grass in so I will have to watch them.
September 27, 201212 yr That is amazing, I wonder if I could find one like that. I too would probably have to take up residence in it too, I have the same problem with that fact my parents hate my budgies too. But anyways its beautiful.
September 28, 201212 yr Author That's amazing Phill, now can you come and do that in real life? HAHAHA and while you are at it bring me some of your beautiful birds you have on your website! (I'm only joking). You are very clever!!!
March 23, 201312 yr Author Just thought I would share me new extension that hubby and I did today Soooo happy Edited March 23, 201312 yr by Nadene
March 24, 201312 yr Great job Nadene, you can see already how much the birds love the open air flights. Great for their vit D. Mine also love it out in the rain, doesn't matter how heavy.
March 24, 201312 yr Author Thank you Robyn, they are loving it! Their flight space has almost doubled. I just have to make some new perches.
March 24, 201312 yr That is fantastic Nadene. What a fast way to double a flight area. Could I request a close up photo of you birds in their new home?
March 25, 201312 yr Author Here are my birds. I have pet and show type This is my old guy, I've had him for years but he's not in the best of health. He is loving the sun and has claimed his spot. and I thought I'd show off my little pinkies that are in the cabinets you can see in the aviary
March 25, 201312 yr Things are looking great for you Nadene. It doesn't take a lot once you make the decision to add on. I'm sure your birds will benefit from it. Hope my new round does okay.
March 25, 201312 yr Thanks Nadene. I love yellow faced blues and would like to breed show quality Australian Yellow faces. Yours looks lovely and I really like the yf grey. Your old boy seems to be the perfect patriarch for your aviary. He seems to be loving the sun : ) I am hooked on pinkies they are just so cute (although I describe them as feeling like dried pink HubbaBubba you could find under any school desk). Yours look perfect and full of possibilities. Thanks for sharing.
March 25, 201312 yr Author I would really love a yellow face cobalt, that's my dream. The YF grey facing the camera was my first show chick I had hatch and she is about 4 months old, her mother who's the same has her back to us at the top. Next to her is her 3 month old sister who is a YF Opaline grey spangle and the pinkies are also siblings fostered out because she was a hopeless mother (I didn't think that the older one would last 24hrs).
March 26, 201312 yr Oh dear. Great that theyhatched then. Could you keep me updated on their progress I would love to see some show quality yfaces develop.
March 28, 201312 yr Nice idea I might add one to my aviary as I would like to max out the birds space.I will add a safety door as well and add roof to it all. as it rains allot in Tasmania.
March 28, 201312 yr Author Thanks L_J. It's just started to rain for the first time since it was done and they are all out sitting in it I wanted a safety door too but I couldn't push hubby to much
March 28, 201312 yr Hi Nadene, mine love the rain also. L_J if you added roof to it the birds would still be shaded from sun and rain, which is the main purpose. They need vitamin D from the sun and really enjoy the rain, mine sit out in pouring rain, sitting like little tawny frog mouths head up letting rain pour over them.
March 30, 201312 yr I'm just worried about other wild birds spreading disease. I wanted a safety door too but I couldn't push hubby to much Come on you should push him his only gotta strain his hands doing a few pop rivets and use a cutting disc on the steel lol Edited March 30, 201312 yr by L__J
March 30, 201312 yr Author haha L_J I think hubby would rather they fly away, he doesn't like them. One step at a time I'm not to concerned about the wild bird. The only thing I was warned about (I asked members at my club how to do the extension) was to have strong wire or double wire at the to because of predators. Edited March 30, 201312 yr by Nadene
