Posted September 27, 201212 yr Hi All I'm asking for my 16 year old who has the budgies and LOVES them all so dearly. We had a set of parents with 3 babies in a separate cage while they had eggs which have since hatched. Today our daughters new much larger cage arrived, so she transferred parents nesting box and babies to the new bigger cage, thinking more room to fly as they are ready, will help babies. Now the mother has disappeared or escaped somehow. Would a mother abandon her babies? Did we do the wrong thing moving them into the bigger new cage? Will the mother stay close to the cage with babies or take off? Can the Dad budgie care for the babies? Any tips to entice her back? My daughter is now distraught and going to have to handfeed the babies too I presume? Thanks for any help you can provide. Darren

Today our daughters new much larger cage arrived, so she transferred parents nesting box and babies to the new bigger cage, thinking more room to fly as they are ready, will help babies. Now the mother has disappeared or escaped somehow. Would a mother abandon her babies? yes if she's not in same cage Did we do the wrong thing moving them into the bigger new cage? maybe not, I have moved some of mine Will the mother stay close to the cage with babies or take off? Probably take off if she is free outside? Can the Dad budgie care for the babies? Yes he could, depending on age of chicks. Any tips to entice her back? Not really if she's gone she's gone unless somebody close by caught her. My daughter is now distraught and going to have to handfeed the babies too I presume? Thanks for any help you can provide. Darren Maybe let nearby neighbours, pet shop etc. know to be on the lookout for Mum Can you let us know how old chicks are? Are they in a cage with just the "family" group or with others birds.
