Posted September 4, 201212 yr Hello All We have just got a new member of the family. I am not sure if it is male or female. My daughter has called it Goldie- I know, pretty original hahaha, but she is 6. I have been looking through the threads, and am now totally confused. Here is our new bird. (The seller told me female, and it was biting his fingers, but then he said, '"oh there's a bit of blue there too?" ) Also- how old would you guess it is? Any help appreciated. I will have to go and get myself a bird book I think...lol Cheers, K
September 4, 201212 yr Others could tell you for sure but I think it looks male. (I'm no expert by any means). It looks like it still has baby stripes on head so I'd say under 3 mths old.
September 4, 201212 yr Hi, I am not a %100 on this but I would say it is a female and under the age of 5 months.
September 4, 201212 yr Hi The fact that young hens have a tinge of blue gives, shopkeepers a chance to palm them off as cocks. Judging by your birds general appearance I would guess it a hen You'll find out for sure when it moults out......B.J.
September 5, 201212 yr Author Thank you for your replies. It doesn't really matter to me what it is- as long as its a healthy happy birdie. Goldie is a pretty unisex name I suppose. We just keep saying he or she it would be good to know for sure lol When is it that they go through their first moult? Edited September 5, 201212 yr by ~~K~~
