Deformed Beak

Featured Replies

Hi, new around here. Introduced myself already in the noob section. Someone suggested I post here with my beak question.

Beaker here has a deformed beak. He has scaly beak mites and so I've given him a drop of medicine for it. I got Beaker and Rose (the blue girl behind him) together from their previous owner. Rose looks perfectly normal so I don't get how you can't tell Beaker doesn't look right.

Anyway, how bad do people think that beak looks? Is there any hope for Beaker? He seems to eat okay.

Hi Broke90. The poor guy! He does look bad, doesn't he? Did you give Rose a drop of the ivermectin, too?

I don't know how well a budgie with scaley face can recover, once it has gotten bad. But if the one in that link to the FAQ section could make such an improvement, maybe yours can, too.

Yes, Rose got a drop too. Pointless to do one and not the other with mites. She looks perfectly healthy, both beak and feet. Beaker appears to be in good shape in every other respect, just not the beak or the feet.

I had a similar problem with one of my birds last year, except it was not a severe, i dont know if u have been informed this but if you can seperate the birds it is better, In isolation my budgie recovered from scaley face in about 5 weeks. Like the others though i suggest getting the beak trimmed. Also was Beaker like that when you got him, if not you might want to think about giving the cage a clean.

Hope this helps

They both came from a friend whose kids looked after them and they were all clueless. Both lived in the same cage before, and they're in a new cage together now. He was like this when I got him.

Okay so it is not your conditions that caused this, thats great, saves a lot of work, i would still recomend separating them just in case until he gets better.
