Posted July 10, 201212 yr I was visiting a friend today and noticed a bird with a really bad swollen leg. It's so badly swollen that you cannot even see the bottom of the ring. She has taken it inside and bathed it in vinegar and water, and has applied and antispetic cream but we were wondering is there anything that will help reduce the swelling fast so she can cut of the ring. Thanks.
July 10, 201212 yr I know this will sound unusual, but i have had success soaking the swollen leg in listerine mouth wash 2 or 3 times a day, try to rotate the ring while soaking if possible. The antiseptic kills the infection, which reduces the swelling and allows blood to flow to and from the foot. Have had a couple of birds treated this way and not require the ring to be removed.
July 10, 201212 yr Author Thanks Bad Hair Day, that is unusual i'll text her and let her know. I'll be going to her house later on today will let you know how she goes. Many Thanks Libby.
July 12, 201212 yr Hello I would advise a trip to a vet. Useful advice from myself & other well meaning members would be only guesswork at best as we cannot see the problem first hand. ....B.J. Edited July 12, 201212 yr by Bird Junky
