This Looks Male?

I purchased this budgie at a bird sale thinking it was a male, but one of my other males in my aviary has paired up with it or has become really good friends. They wont leave each others sides and they constantly feed each other. Do you think it is a male or is it a female because the cere is blue but slowly changing to brown.budgies001-1.jpg?t=1341371389

Hi

I would say female for sure.

I have a hen that when she is in peak breeding condition her cere is a real nutmeg in colour but out of condition her cere will change to a pale blue.

In these photos, definitely looks male. Cocks in my aviary will often pair up with other cocks, then go on to breed perfectly fine with a hen in a breeding cabinet.

It's not female...that is certain. It is a male but his cere is slightly offcoloured due to possible hormone imbalance, age or health issue, many boys will kiss and preen other boys in the aviary so that alone is no sign of the sex.

It can be very deceiving at times when trying to sex them.

I also have two pairs of males that just adore each other but are great breeders when paired up with the girls.

Good luck with him....I hope he breeds well for you.

Definitely male but as Kaz says definitely not normal. Hormonal imbalance.

female

wrong :D and if you tried breeding it one day you would be waiting a very long time for an egg :)
