Fixed Broken Leg

Hi all, I had about a week old chick break it's leg, tangled up with chicks with splinted legs for splay.

I got layers of surgical tape, one on top of the other and laid leg on it. Did the same for top of leg. Eased the tape down over break to hold it it place. Trimmed off excess tape. AND prayed. Foot was frozen but good colour. Left it for about a week.

Eased off tape and it seemed to be healing so left tape off.

1st picture afer I taped it.

I feel quite pleased with the result, if I do say so myself. l.o.l. He's perching and foot is fine.

Well done Robyn, you're very clever. Beautiful looking bird :)

He looks great!

You would be surprised how resilient they can be. I had a chick get its leg ring caught once, and found him dangling, and bloody. It looked like the leg was dislocated, and I was afraid I would have to put him out of his misery. But his demeanor was so healthy appearing, that I just had to give him a chance. As the day wore on, his leg went more and more back into proper position, and in the end, he healed up 100%.

I'm glad yours has healed up. :)

Thank you all, It was very satisfying to know he was saved. I worried Mum would not feed him etc but she carried on as normal. He was a bit behind the others fledging, I think maybe he was pushed aside a bit but he's made up for it now.
