Posted May 20, 201212 yr I have had a couple of sick birds lately, one died and the other is starting to get better after a second lot of antibiotics. My question is what can I give him to help put his weight back on as he is just feathers and bones?
May 21, 201212 yr Hulled oats, ..............and if he will eat it, porridge oatmeal with added polenta, and water to make a soft easy eating consistency ( not necessary to cook ) ....
May 22, 201212 yr Also, I'd suggest feeding them this mineral mixture that some people on the finch forum I'm in feed all their birds Here's the link to the topic http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11830 You seriously need an indestructable grinder
May 23, 201212 yr I have a bird recovering from a blocked intestine along with all the meds and reduced immunity. Avian vet Rob Marshall put him on a program which included a lot of Rob's own product line. However, it included some regular stuff as well. Weak camomile tea twice a week, substituted for normal water. Apparently it helps the bowel against staph and strep infections. Make sure it's camomile only, not with other additives or flavours. Sunshine, daily if possible, for Vit D immunity. Swiss chard as a main vegetable. Swiss Chard apparently has a lot of immunity boosting stuff in it. It's hard to get though.
May 23, 201212 yr Chamomile tea is especially good for if you want to have a quiet day from your birds It's kind of like alchohol for birds except no bad side effects... only good ones
May 23, 201212 yr Author maybe i might start drinking chamomile tea Thanks Stace, I'll go and get them. I have heard of Dr Rob Marshalls products, I will look into those too. I have been putting him outside when it starts warming up each day. Even though he is away from the other birds he can hear and see them and is now starting to get excited to be out there. I'm taking that as a good sign Edited May 23, 201212 yr by Nadene
