Posted April 26, 201213 yr Hi, I have 2 budgies, Laila (girl) and Max (boy). When I bought them in March 2011, the pet store owner said the girl was 3 months old and the boy was 6 months old. At the beginning of April 2012 we have attached a nest box to the cage. Laila and Maxie are very close to each other, but they do fight sometimes. Laila doesn't fly much, she can only fly downwards, but not much upwards. I have never chopped their wings. Even after keeping the nest box, they are not breeding. They do explore inside the box sometimes, but that's about it. I have kept the wooden and the mineral block in the cage. I am not a professional breeder, but just want to keep their babies when they do come. Is there anything I should do to make them breed soon or is it normal that they have not yet breeded? Thank you. Sangee
April 26, 201213 yr If you only attached breeding box this month, it will take a while for them to come into breeding condition. etc. I think you will have to be patient a bit longer for them to breed.
April 27, 201213 yr Hi You make no mention about your birds breeding condition. Would I be right in guessing that you have a limited knowledge on the subject. If so please check out the posts about the care of budgies before you attempt any breeding. Yours B.J.
April 27, 201213 yr Author Hi Thanks for responding, yes my knowledge is very limited in this area. I had never owned any pets before I got the budgies last year. I will look into the posts mentioned by you. My budgies are generally healthy and playful. Hi You make no mention about your birds breeding condition. April 28, 201213 yr Laila please post clear photos of your budgies and the cage set up you have for them to breed in so we can help you better
May 9, 201213 yr . My budgies are generally healthy and playful. Healthy and playful is good. The stronger and healthier they are, the better they will be able to raise their chicks, with less drain on their own bodies. However, breeding condition refers to their hormonal state, which triggers them to begin laying eggs. When you read up on the breeding of budgies, you will learn how to tell what stage of their cycle they are in by the color of their ceres.
