Here are before and after pictures of three of my opalines.They started out looking like typical opalines but they have lost a lot oftheir colour after the moult. These three birds are not closely related.

You really have to stop using bleach in their spray bottle mate :D

 

Are you getting as little more sun over there than usual ?

 

Seriously though I have no answers for you but it sure is a good excuse for a few funnies

you sure your not just bored photo shop can do that to a bird lol

seriously though nev if your for real

maybe its time for a outcross even if notclose related you need a bird with a good even color coverage try breeding your darkgreens to light blues this will help put the coulour back in your birds if you breed light to light alot this can happen over period of time

Very strange.... I agree with the last looking like a clearbody though.

I like the effect of the spread of the white or yellow and I wondered if anyone else had seen anything similar.

 

The bird in the first picture has opaline brothers and sisters that are fully coloured, She seemed to show more white after her second moult.

 

The green bird is probably carrying a golden face gene, she is only about 5 months old so she might become even more yellow.

 

There are no clearbodys in New Zealand as far as I know

 

No bleach or photoshop and we haven't had much sun lately

same thing happened to one of my opalines i hadn't noticed the colors changing till my GF pointed out to me if i had gotten a new bird, will post pictures tomorrow

I had an opaline like that some time ago (photo below), we actually thought might be a clearbody, since she was already older when I got her, very mottled and later on actually gained more colour again and the mottledless lessened. Altogether 3 cases of "badly coloured" opalines that I have seen. The link shows a green male and his sister a friend of mine had. Later on I saw a mottled budgie in a petshop too, but at that time I was wise enough not to mix it to a clearbody (easley)

These three birds look more like Frosted Pieds than any clearbody. Frosteds tend to lighten with each molt and a variant of the Dutch Pied.
