Posted April 4, 201213 yr Hi all im a 35yr old mum to a nearly 3yr old daughter and a 20mth old son my daughter is getting a hand reared budgie for her birthday on the 14th of may. I have never had a tame bird before so very excited will keep you all up to date and prob ask many silly questions lol but really want this budgie to be happy love us and teach him tricks later etc any advice on bringing him home and getting him settled in would be great thanks jasmine
April 4, 201213 yr Hi and welcome, don't think any question you ask is silly/stupid etc.( should have seen some of mine). This is a great spot to find out anything you want to know about Budgies. Usually rapid answers to any query as well. Good luck with your new bub when you get him.

April 17, 201213 yr Hi Jasmine and welcome to the forum. When buying your new budgie I would advice to buy a very young male straight out of the nest at about 6 to 8 weeks old. males are easier to train and they don't bite as hard as hens. But make sure he is feeding on his own first don't let any one sell you one any under that age. But if you are after a show bird you will probably not get one that young as most breeders will keep them until they go through their 1st moult and sometimes second moult. I hope this helps.
