Posted March 19, 201213 yr I've had Kenny for about 4 months now . I have been trying to train him to step onto my finger. Once, about a month ago he stepped on & let me bring him out of his cage & back in & I thought " we've got this cracked". However now he will sometimes put 1 foot onto my finger & just stay there until I have to move my arm out as it is hurting my shoulder or use my hand as a stepping stone to fly out of the cage . It's very frustrating as I thought by now he would be well trained . Is it normal after a few months for him still not want to step up? or am I just going to have to be patient .
March 20, 201213 yr I almost wonder if you are being too patient? Are you using millet? It's a good incentive, and you can make him work a little harder for his rewards, by not letting him have a taste unless he steps fully onto your finger. Then build up how long you require the standing before the reward. Bird Junky has some training articles he has posted recently, have you read those? And the ones in our FAQ section?
