Hi guys,

I'm in need of desperate help here, I want to get a dominant pied sky-blue cock to be a playmate/breeder for Sparta, however, Mum thinks that our house is turning into a zoo (even though it's not, only a dog, a few fish and Sparta, although then again, I can be counted ;) ) She wasn't that keen on me getting Sparta, and her opinion nearly always comes first in our household. I need to persuade her to let me get that dpsb cock, I already have a few arguments, Sparta is definitely getting lonely, 2 budgies mean 2 happy budgies, Breeding is a great hobby for the whole family, and doesn't require much to do at all (this is only for one pair, because until I'm an adult, I'm not going to do large scale breeding), she'll get 50% of the profits, and it will eventually regain the money that we lose for the birds (probably not true, but she'll buy it).

Any other ideas please???? I'm worried for Sparta :(

Thanks, Flip-Trainer

1. budgies do live singular lives with their human people and not get lonely.

2. Sparta does NOT need a breeding partner yet.

3. There is no Profit in breeding budgies.....when done correctly.

as a parent I understand where your mother is coming from. Parents are less likely to add pets to the household if they think they are taking over or creating extra work or disturbance. So many kids still living at home do not realise that parents like extra help around the house, vaccuuming, dishes, taking out the rubbish, washing the car, cleaning out the garage, doing the gardening. If a child isnt pulling their weight around the house the parents get stressed about every little extra thing they THINK may cause an extra load upon the household.

I think really you dont need that extra bird yet. When you got Sparta it was going to be a bird you tamed and trained.......hows that going ? If you have discovered you dont have the time for that then YES the bird may get a little lonely. Maybe you told your parents about all the time and training you were going to do with Sparta before you got your bird and maybe they see you arent ?

I suggest you become the best child you can be for your parents..........earn their trust and respect and try asking again in maybe 6 months time.

Breeding is a great hobby for the whole family, and doesn't require much to do at all
if you believe this then you are mis-led.

yeah right

Sorry........not what you wanted to hear,..................but needed to be said.

I understand KAZ, but I actually really don't have much time to spend with Sparta, because I'm actually aiming to get a veterinary science course in Murdoch when I leave school, so I need 90% and up in all my subjects, and from day 1 of school, I was studying my hardest  So she really needs a friend to spend all her time with... I would take her out and do my homework with her, but chances are that she'd eat my homework ;)

Oh, and I try to do my bit around the house, but Mum says that I'm just getting in the way, even when I'm sometimes doing things better than her :3

And I won't try to breed Sparta anytime except the holidays.....

Hey Flip.

I'm sorry, I also have to weigh in on the side of the parent. (Seeing as I am one, with 5- teens on up into college age. :P )

You sound quite busy, and about to get busier, once you get into college. Here in the U.S., it is more common for students to live away at college, although some commute from home. So that means leaving your bird home for Mom to take care of. I can see why she might not want to care for two. And if they think the house is a zoo now, wait until you are producing more baby animals. Then it really WILL be a zoo!

I notice that you spend a fair amount of time on the forum. You could always spend that time training Sparta, instead. ;)

And I agree with Kaz, there is no money to be made from this. It is more of an expensive hobby. It sounds like you have a pretty low opinion of your mom's intelligence, if you think she will fall for that one.:D

:( I know I will be staying at home til I finish at Murdoch, and yes, I do have a pretty low opinion on Mum's intelligence of birds, because she thought that Sparta would actually cost around 150 dollars 0.o so I can easily suggest that I'll be making more money that I'll be losing without her knowing the truth, but in time she'll figure it out, and probably do nothing about it, thinking I was researching on the wrong sites ;)

I think if you are planning to hoodwink your mother with bad information then you deserve to not have another budgie :(
