Hello, New And Looking For A Budgie!

Hi all,

I've been trawling through these forums for well over a month now, and I've finally decided to sign up to become a member.

I have been looking into getting a pet budgie for a while now, but I wanted to take the time to make sure I had done all of my research;

(I feel now I'm well versed in cage size, quarantine, diet, natural perches, no sandpaper, tassels or mirror etc...)

My family have owned pet budgies before when I was a bit younger, and now that I've moved out of my family home, I think I'm ready to get another feathered friend.

I'm hoping that there's someone here who can help me out in finding a budgie,

I'm after a young male, hand tamed or not, (I plan on having a tame budgie) that would be available some time mid to late february.

Not particularly fussed on colour, as long as he's happy and healthy, but I'm a sucker for blue or bright yellow. Also, I am located in Melbourne.

I have done a bit of searching on gumtree, but would prefer to deal with someone knowledgeable.

Thanks for reading, glad to be here :) Such an informative site.

Welcome to the forums Sweetpea :) I hope you continue to find everything you need here ;)

As for finding a budgie, I personally don't like Gumtree, because a few of my friends have purchased animals from there and it turned out that they were poisoned by the people they bought them from! (this was a couple years back)

But don't let that stop you, I personally think that buying from one of our breeders here (no, I'm not a breeder) KAZ breeds quality birds, but she's the only one that I can actually say is from Perth ;) Can't remember who else :) So many names :D

Hope you find one within the forums :D

Hi thanks for the welcome! :)

Yeah I thought some of the ads on gumtree looked a bit dodgy... :/ definitely a last resort.

There is a list of breeders on this forum somewhere.......... see if this is it:

Also enter your request into the trading post part of the forum. Someone from near you may answer. You may even find someone there has budgies ready to go, so a good place to look if you are looking to buy as well.

Not really sure if u would actually go this far, but when I was in Geelong, we went to the Adventure Park, and along the way, there was a sign saying Budgies and Cockatiels for sale

Okay thank you, I will have a look around and maybe make a post there.

Geelong might be a bit too far for me, I'm a bit of a slacker and haven't got around to getting my licence yet... :P so I will have to bribe a friend to drive me.

I think there are a couple of members on this site from the Melbourne area who breed. Sometimes people don't log on for a few days, so just keep checking back.

Hello Sweetpea :) your members name is the same as my siamese kitty :)

It is nice to see that you have done your research on caring for a budgie. I bet you are very excited to find a budgie ( I know that is how l would feel.)Just remember that once you have found one you need to post a picture of the budgie on here, lol

any luck finding budgies in the Melbourne area?

I was sure there were breeders from there on the site. Hopefully someone will get back to you, if they haven't already.

Hey guys, I have found a breeder (via trading post) that will have some tame baby budgies for me to choose from towards the end of Feb. He will be some sending me some photos, which I will be sure to share with you all. It's going to be a long month waiting, looks like I've got a bit of shopping to do before hand though :D
