Posted January 22, 201213 yr We live in Canada and our 4 mos old budgie (Pedro) flew out the door this afternoon. It's 22 degrees Celcius inside, and it's -1 Celcius outside. He wasn't outside very long (maybe 15 seconds) just long enough for my husband to run out after him and grab him in his hands before he landed anywhere in the snow. He was flying (obviously) and we were wondering if he would experience any problems because of this (ie: lungs etc). Should we be worried?
January 23, 201213 yr Hi Catharine, welcome to the forums Unfortunately I'm not entirely on top of the health section of budgies, but I'm fairly sure that budgies are really sensitive to massive temperature changes, but I'm not sure if 15 seconds is really long enough for whatever happens, to happen If you get my drift
January 23, 201213 yr Best thing to do with shock or fright or illness is put their cage by a warm lamp until you see some kind of improvement
January 23, 201213 yr Author Thanks for your replies everyone. Pedro is doing just fine. He is his usual chipper self. Very chatty and active. When my husband caught him and brought him inside, he did blow warm air into his cupped hands where Pedro was resting. Hopefully all is well. It likely wasn't long enough to do any damage. We're very thankful for that, he's become such a loved addition to our family!
January 23, 201213 yr Hi Catharine, welcome to the forum. I'm so glad your husband was able to catch him! What good luck!
